I don't know that they'll be able to. Is there a single gene that causes borderless, or is it a polygenetic trait that pops up now and again and can be selectively bred for? I don't think either has been proven yet. Some have purported that it might have come from yellow rat snake genes (along with caramel and yellow jacket, another unproven gene), but again there's little solid evidence other than strong visual similarities between the two snakes.
In fact, I've noticed that visual similarity between a given morph and another species always leads to discussion about hybridization. It's like an unwritten rule of herpetoculture; I call it the law of hybrid affinity.
Hello and many thanks for the info. That explains the poor outcome of my research.
Is there anyone who is doing some investigations in this direction?
I learned that Borderless might be a selectively bred out of motley.....
I never heard about the possibility of caramel being a hybrid from a yellow rat snake!?!?!?!! sorry that is really hybrid affinity hahahaha
But i have an other question about yellow jacket!!
I have very light Sulfur het. hypo! (Father Sulfur het. hypo, Mother HypoFire het. caramel) The mother had much yellow so she was more orange then red. (But not that orange like an Auratum)
The Father looks like a Sulfur should look like.
4 Sulfurs came out of this clutch 1 male and 3 females. The male and one female were relatively dark and 2 females were very light straight after hatching. They were more neon than yellow so you can guess that they are looking more toffeesulfurs than sulfurs.
I took one of this very light females.
This year i paired her with my anerystriped het. Bloodred,Hypo ph amel male.
From 9 eggs only 1 hatches. A nice little Bloodred fella.
But now after the 4th shed he also gets more and more yellow! I heared that snakes with het. for caramel often develop a lot of yellow so i thought thats the reason but know after reading a lot about yellow jacket i am not sure.
Is my sulfur a sulfur YJ? and is my Blood hatchling also YJ?
Attached a pic of my sulfur het/hom hypo and 2 pics of my bloodred after 1st and 4th shed. Is this how yellow jacket look like?
(Bad thing is that he is the only one out of the clutch so i have no siblings to compare)
