New Baby still wont eat! Help!

So I was thinking I may have to assist feed him this saturday to try and get some food in him before I leave for school monday. Since he is small I was thinking of just feeding him a small pinky head just to see if he keeps it down. i was wondering if there is any good videos showing good techinques (I know the idea of what I need to do but any tips would be great). Also I was wondering if he does keep it down how long do I have to keep assist feeding before I should see if he will just take food normally?

Their is no harm in trying it, I have 1 who will only eat in her hide. I leave the pinky outside of the hide on a piece of kitchen roll/paper towel and she comes out graps it and drags it back into her hide.

Assist feeding is always a last resort after trying everything else and you don't want to loose your little noodle.

Ok I will try and feed it in the hide next before resorting to assist feeding or vet. How long would you suggest I wait before I try again after trying to feed last night. Keep in mind we are both going to be moving to my apartment for school on monday.

Sorry if you said this already, but have you tried Dawn or Ivory dishwashing liquid in the water prior to boiling it and dripping a pinky head in for about 10-20 seconds? My initial difficult eaters that eventually became voracious started only when I tried this. As Nanci suggests, don't rinse the head or pinky off completely. It's something to do with the scent of the soap.

Just a suggestion.

I have not tried this can you describe this I dont quiet understand the concept?

Sure. While everyone probably does it with slight variations, the basics are what counts. What I do is boil some water in a mug in the microwave and have the pinkies waiting in a separate cup. While the water is nuking, I squirt some Dawn on the pinkies and run water in the cup till it foams over. I then pour the soapy mixture out and then add the boiling water directly on the soapy pinkies. After about 15 seconds, no longer than 20, I completely drain the cup and distribute the pinks still steaming slightly into each deli cup. I can tell it's still warm by the vapor it leaves on the side of the cup. I then add the hatchling to the deli cup (if the hatchling is already there, you might wanna just wait about 20 seconds to avoid scalding a hatchling but that has never happened since the pinks seem to cool off quickly; just use common sense!). I think it's better to ensure that the pinky is still warm. The boiled pink has worked without the Dawn but for real stubborn snakes, for some reason, it sometimes just makes that little necessary difference, since some hatchlings seem to have an aversion to the scent of a dead pinky. However, I have also discovered that these are the hatchlings that usually require a lot of energy and time when it comes to feeding them the first few times. It's worth the struggle but they WILL make you work!!

So try boiling without Dawn first, and make sure to leave them alone in a sealed deli cup inside of a drawer for about 4-6 hours. If that doesn't work, I try again with new pinkies but with Dawn. I also heard Ivory works, but can't vouch personally for it. Oh yeah, the smaller the pinky the better!! (If you have a clutch of eggs, as soon as they hatch, you should begin looking for a source of day-old pinkies!)

Good luck!! (Still haven't had any with 3 of the little bastards!! LOL!! But I don't quit easily!!).

Keep us posted!!
