So I think my snakes has somehow learn to open the glass sliding door... she's escaped 3 times in last few weeks, first few I assumed I didn't shut it properly but I've been paranoid rechecking it and today found her underneath the vivid with glass slightly open!! Anyone else found this? Pretty heavy duty viv bought from a reptile centre so not a shodily built thing!!!. . .
Hiya there dave! How ya been? I hope you and Houdini are well! (Is that the snake's name? If not, it might be a good suggestion for a moniker!! LOL!)
I affectionately call
all snakes
little sneaky ones, because even though they might not be so
little, they definitely are all extremely
sneaky! In fact, it can be argued that it's their very JOB to be sneaky, since every move they make is slithery, relatively quiet, and ninja-like, even without the use of legs or digits of any kind! That being said, you are extremely fortunate not to have lost your little sneaky one for good, not to mention 3 times! Talk about tempting fate? Come on dude! Unless you think Taco Bell is a Mexican phone company, you'll JUMP on that one ASAP, right away, and forthwith!!
Sorry dude. Don't know ya and shouldn't be getting overly familiar with ya and I don't mean no harm, but I've lost snakes due to arrogance, oversight, neglect, and even stupidity! But discovering the skeletal remains of a yearling I once lost behind a wall in a room I was renovating, mainly because I
forgot to shut the door to the cage, has caused me to ponder upon on this serious lapse in judgment as the owner of an animal whose well-being rests within our responsibility and control. I would also be a hypocrite to reprimand anyone without taking into account that I have been overly casual about my own husbandry skills to have lost multiple snakes during my lifetime, once in my CAR as a yearling was wrapped around my rearview mirror, resting comfortably, or so I thought, until I saw his tail disappear into a vent on the dashboard!!! (YIKES!). NO, I never found out where Slick (appropriately named) went. I have been kicking myself in the ass ever SINCE!
Sorry to bore you with this senseless chatter, but the point is that while I don't know what to tell you in terms of securing your sliding doors except to abandon that style of cage for a more secure one even when there are probably other options (if those who know them will chime in, that is), no one who owns a snake should ever lose one if he or she remembers that you have to be constantly vigilant and have the utmost respect for the fact that it's a snake's purpose in life to escape!
Just sayin'. :my2cents_01:
