Finished Remodel over the weekend

Ok, so I had a 30L fish tank that I broke down and remodeled for my new little snake. BTW~ We have named her Maize.

What I used:

6x6 in tiles for the substrate (great for easy weekly clean up and quick detection of fecal matter)
1 8x8 UTH
1 Thermometer with probe
1 6ft section of Bamboo (cut to design, frozen to rid of parasites)
1 fish tank plastic root knot
1 Pirate Skull
Several rocks to form 2 cold hides and 2 warm hides with 2 intermediate hides.
1 watering dish (well hidden)
2 fake plant vines (washed and frozen to remove parasites)

Currently Maize is staying in a 5 gal critter keeper because she is far to small to find in this set up. Plus, I don't have the screen lid yet.

Here is my finished viv:

Wow! I think that's beautiful, but I would rethink the use of tile as "substrait." It's not substrate...it's a bare floor. Other than that, I think that's an awesome set up. I just wouldn't want to clean it. ;-)

You will find those vines a royal pain in the arse to clean! Believe me my hatchling has a little fake plant in his that has maybe a quarter of the leaves yours does...He always seems to climb up there so he can poo down through all the leaves.

Funny that you say that about the vines... I have had Niblet on tile floor and vines in his viv for two years. Never once does he defecate on the the vines.

He always defecates on the floor just outside his water dish. I will certainly remember too look for poo in the vines. Thanks!

As far as the tile for "substrate", I appreciate your opinion, but I have used tile with Niblet for two years and it is GREAT! Easy to clean, no odor that seems to stick around. I notice fecal matter immediately and open up the top and clean. It is wonderful.

I should post pics of Niblet's viv for you to see.

Thanks for the comments though, I love creating these things!

No problem. Mine was purely an opinion provided freely, and was worth every penny you paid for it. Or less! :)

I had a thought to take some 2 to 3 inch diameter PVC piping and a hole saw and make a bunch of holes so that the snake can crawl in, out, through, on top of it. Make it long enough so that I can prop it diagonally between opposite corners at an incline. That'll probably be ugly, though. Next thought is one of those long ladders sold for use in parrot cages. Nip off every other rung to give more 'weaving' room...

I would only worry about the bamboo tubes.. I thought long ago about doing something pretty with copper pipe, then realized that I don't want my snakes to have a hide I can't take them out of..
If you don't mind though, I know the snake will LOVE it.

Oh the bamboo is sealed. At each seam in Bamboo their is a solid fibrous material. So I just sawed just after that and whalla sealed Bamboo.

I thought the same thing, I didn't want to make a hide I couldn't easily retrieve my snake from.

Merlin'sPop I like the parrot ladder idea... I have parrots too and I am sure I could use some of that stuff to make cool exercise areas.

I had the same question about the bamboo, but if it's sealed no prob. I use the really cheap dollar store vines and stuff then if they poo I can cut that part out and throw it away. I love all the stuff in yours and the background stained glass thingy very cool. Gives me lots of ideas.
Do you ever take all the tiles out and wash them? I like the idea but would worry about bacteria and mold between the tiles. susang
