Major Humidity Battle !!!

Hi guys.

I have just got a tank from someone for £5.. Its 36"L 15W 28"H ... Its made totally from glass and i have put my adult corn in there.

Anyway.... the problem is it has a major humidity issue with it. I have a heat matt about 1/3 of the tank and the water bowl that is not on the matt. The humidity hit 98% last night with condensation on almost all sides of the viv.

Anyone got any usfull ideas on how to reduse this.

What kind of top does it have? If it has a glass top, see if you can get a screen top.

Also, what is your room humidity? Are you sure your humidity gauge is accurate? What are your temps, and how are you measuring it?

good luck

its a complete solid unit with sliding doors... has a small gap along the top. room humiditi normally is at about 44% ... gauge is totally fine and almost new .. its digital. i have the probe end in the cold part of the tank.

WOW, that is the opposite problem from what I expected when I opened the thread....you need to open it up somehow, either from drilling holes or maybe see if there is a way to remove the seal (silicon?) from the upper cracks in the cage. I know when I went to my enclosure, the humidity went up, but there is plenty of holes in the side and back that keeps it from becoming a "sweatbox". Good luck! I know it sucks to have to do that to a new cage, but you can't use it with humidity that high.

could always try putting less water in the bowl and moving the bowl all the way to the far cold side.

Another thing could be if you've used new aspen in the viv, it can raise humidity levels whilst its still drying

Oy my! I was JUST about to post nearly this very thing. I live in the UK too, and I have just put my snakes into brumation boxes a couple days ago. Now that its cooler where they are and I guess its a smaller box... I also have high humidity. Especially in the bottom box... I have a small amound of condensation forming too and my humidity hit 90's.

I have about 40 holes drilled, not that small either, and I don't know what to do as I have nowhere to put the snakes while I drill more... don't want to disturb them: its their 9th day in these tubs (heating was on them for a while)

The water bowl isnt massive (a cereal bowl) but maybe I could make it smaller. What should I do? Aghhhh...

You could look into a de-humidifier atleast for you beanie. As for the all glass cage you will really need to drill some holes in it although that won't be much fun on a class tank.

a cereal bowl sounds massive! hehe although I guess they come in all shapes and sizes. I'd aim to give it something about three inches or so across and not very deep at all, a cm or two.

I was looking at the tank last night. and it is sealed with silicone. I was thinking of removing the top once i dicide what to replace it with.
