is this a good weight?

3 months and only 7 grams?? no, that isnt a good weight unless he had some major problems or something?? At about 7 to 10 grams is their hatch weight....

The thing you really want to look at is whether or not you can see his backbone. He should look like a loaf of bread. There should be no pronounced ridge on his spine. Other than that, just assume he was on a maintenance diet and start feeding every 4-5 days.

First.... Don't Panic!

Is he eating for you? Is he moderately active? What are you feeding him? How often? Just cuz he's a wee little fellow doesn't mean he's not healthy. Maybe he was the runt of the litter, so to speak. If he doesn't have a pronounced ridge along his spine line and his skin isn't all baggy and he's eating for you fine, he might be okay. Its not unusual to see a hatch weight of 5 grams, or for a hatchling to drop weight at first.

Let us know the above. And stop staring at him with that worried look on your face! You're making him nervous. :)

You got him from a petstore yes? How long have you had him?

A lot of us have gotten snakes that were woefully underweight just make sure he's getting a pinky every 4-5 days and as soon as he seems to big for that start giving him two. Panicing only makes it worse, it's ok.

I got 3 babies from a breeder on 11/20. Their cups were marked with a hatch date of 9/7 and they were only 6, 7 & 8 grams each. I thought this was low, but they've been eating and are gaining. The 6 gram one has almost doubled her weight since I got her.

I still wouldn't worry then.
When I got my 9 month old snake she was only 24grams (in may) she had been fed on a matinence diet. She's now almost 160grams.
They're already gaining weight, you're on the right track.

he isnt skinny or baggy and shy in his tank but active when he is out. i have been feeding him a pinky every 6 days, yes he is from a reptile shop, they told me one pink to keep him normal or two to tonk him up!
im re weighing tonight to double check his weight, im hoping he was moving to much! ill let you know the weight soon!

One thing I have noticed is that people tend to make quick diagnoses with few facts. The next step is the new snake owner who is already worried and trying to do everything right goes into a panic. “OMG what should I do”

Three months and 7 grams is “small normal”. It is not to be worried about. Make sure he is being fed on a regular basis and has all the other requirements of life and he will be fine.

At that size he should be eating a small pinkie, about 1.5 grams, every 5 days or so. Try to be consistent with your feeding and I think you will see quick results. As MerlinsPop said, he may have been small to start with. It may be the previous owner didn’t feed it regularly or often.

Corn snakes are tough. If you have done your reading and are trying your best, your critter is going to do great.

If your having problems weighing him, put him in a deli cup and then weigh him. Just subtract the deli cup weight. Makes it AWHOLE lot easier.

Yeah don't panic. I don't necessarily believe the pet store when they say how old he is. I have had people tell me that a baby corn that had to weigh about 6-7 g say he was 6 months old! Put on a 4-5 day feeding schedule. That is what I am doing to bulk mine up a bit.

I just recieved a hatchling who is 7 grams as well....no idea when she hatched but she has to be at least 2 months right?

Ive had tiny hatchlings before, just feed them appropriately sized pinks every 5 days, itll be fine.
