Genus name for corn snake species?

Out of touch here with the names they're using for the corn species, is it proper to call them Elaphe g. guttata or is Pantherophis the newer genus name? (too tired to web-search)

As old habits are hard to break, it's a coin flip for the most experienced keepers, but I'd lean towards the Pantherophis genus, as the Elaphe genus is pretty much "reserved" for rat snakes whose habitat is in Asia.
