By his needs you mean when will he poo? Anywhere from 3-5 days more or less. What do you mean by fed in another place and then took him to his hide? I'm sorry, I'm trying to ask some questions and it may come out wrong. I realize you are new to this and have asked for advice on this forum. Didn't you get your snake yesterday? Didn't you acknowledge in a thread surpirse that other reptiles need a setteling in time? Why did you feel the need to take the snake out today and feed it. It hasn't had time to settle in yet. :shrugs: Also another little tip this is a corn snake forum any discussion of a king belongs in the gen chit chat. susang

Oh no susang I got him on monday =O it was not okay to feed him today? yeah I know it's a king snake but I thought the husbandry was the same so that's why I ask this things in here, and when it's something about THE king snake I post it on the gen chit chat, I'll ask in the gen chit chat from now on I'm sorry

I'm sorry I thought you got him on the 9th, yesterday. As far as posting in gen chit chat those are the rules. It's hard at times but to figure out which snake can be posted where.

Oh no problem =D I'm really sorry, I'll post everything on the gen chit chat now =D thx for your help, and yes I meant poop hehe so no handling 48 hours and poop 3-5 days, thx a lot =D

Well actually you got him on Tues. I went back through your posts you say on Mon the 7th you're getting him tomorrow. So maybe that's where I got confused. At any rate you should have waited 3-5 days (this means tues -wed one day, wed -thur two days, and thurs-fri three days) to handle him and feed. So tomorrow would have been a better time to feed. If I were you I would not handle him until he has a couple feedings under his belt. If you must handle very briefly on Sat. I just wouldn't push it. The last thing you need is a regurging snake. good luck, watch him from across the room, susang

I'm glad I looked at this thread... I really really really want to get my first corn within the next month or so, think I might wait til it gets a little humidity back into the Florida air... our ball python is havin shedding problems right now because of it I think. But thank you susang, I didn't know that you are suppose to let them rest a few days before doing anything with a new snake. I learn a new thing every time I read the threads on this forum lol...

Thanks,

Lil. :)

Susang I'm sorry you're right I got him on tuesday =( It was a very bad mistake feeding him today? or not that bad

bataco - Dont worry about it. Its only advised you give him a few days to settle in.

I fed Chompy the day after i got him because the store couldn't give me an exact date on when he had been fed, but guessed it was atleast a week ago and he was looking quite skinny. He ate fine, latched onto the pinky as soon as he was in the box and swallowed it down in one.

Aslong as you leave him alone for the next 2-3days, keep his temperatures right and he has enough hides to sit in and digest he should be fine.... Just make sure you check every now and again for a regurge but if he ate fine i dont see him passing it back up aslong as you keep his stress to a minimum.

Of course, im no expert... just talking from my own personal experience.

Good luck :)

Bataco -

Nothing you've done so far is wrong per se, but I think what you're being told is it could be somewhat better. We all know you're itching to be interactive with your snake. After all, you didn't buy a potted plant; you bought a pet.

BUT... please keep in mind this this is really a baby. He can become overwhelmed with stimulus, and that can cause stress which would then lead you down a path that you don't want to go. Trust me and anyone else who has been there.

Your Cali will be with you for the next decade or more. I know you're excited, I know you're eager to have the full snake ownership experience, but more than anything else (assuming all the husbandry things like temps, hides, security, etc are good, and I know they are), your snake needs to have time to become comfortable, confident and feel secure. Limit your handling to not more than 5 minutes at first, and only one or two days between feedings, allowing for the 48-72 hr Rest & Digest period. That's plenty enough time for him to begin to recognize you as something that is not a threat to his life, and that your hands become a safe and secure perch, if you will, to begin seeing, smelling and experiencing things outside the confines of his viv.

A little patience now and for the next few months will pay enormous dividends for you in the future.
