Wow that is a weird line, I had the same question but without the line issue, I thought my maximus was with eggs, but it turned out that she was overweight. Here is the advice I got.

Look at the base just before the (poop) area if it is thick and bulky then goes really thin into the tail then it could be overweight. Plus bring to the post a weight of your snake and length and age. It will help ya get more of a quicker answer.

My maximus was overweight and I am glad I caught it early, I now let her swim every 3 weeks and she is slimming down to a normal size.

Could that be a weird muscle ling? Or is that line there pretty much all the time?
Hope it's not something serious :)

well, zora is 94 grams, about 2.5 feet, and i honestly have NO idea how old he is. there's kind of a history behind him, i am the 2nd owner. i would say he might be nearing a year.

and no, the base of the tail isn't noticeably bulky. also, normally when you press on their undersides, is it supposed to be slightly squishy? (as in, you can poke it in a lil and it'll spring back, like the dough boy:p)

My maximus is just over 2 feet and she is 56g now. hmmm maybe you could start with swimming in the tub once a week see what happens to his size.

i just caught zora out actually, and he reaches nearly all the way across his viv, which is 36 inches. so nearly 3 feet.

i guess swimming won't be so bad! he already acts like a sea serpent, and swims around - literally- in circles in his water dish. suuuuper cute! he pops his head out of the water and stops, and then dunks it right back in and starts swirling again! sometimes i think he is pretending to be a washing machine!

You say almost 3 feet? You could try every 10 days thats what I did plus the swimming as a diet and exercise. I got all my advice from susang on the forum she is VERY helpful when it comes to answering questions. Maximus has slimmed down a bit, but to me the weight seems normal for a 3 footer after reading alot of weight ins and size comparisons.

can you get a close full body shot of your snake? and some close ups around the area where the body meets the tail? Some photo shots might be able to help us see if your snake is over weight or not..

i shall do that tomorrow. i'm nursing a fractured ankle, so going upstairs and retrieving the snake + camera is OUT of the question right now, hahaha. done enough hobbling around for one day.

pics tomorrow!

have you been snowboarding like a true canadian girl and THATS how ya fractured your ankle? :dancer:

CLOSE! i was drinkin' beers around a fire... an inevitably, there was a parade of unicorns SOAAAARING across the fire as the flames licked their legs!

no, for real, i was drunk. i jumped over a fire. landed wrong, the end. haha. how embarrassing.

also as for the snowboarding. i live 45 minutes away from grouse, cypress, AND whistler/blackcomb, and i've never been snowboarding, nor skiing. i know i know, stone me now!

it's pretty much a sin where i live. but i don't care. i'm terrified of falling off the mountain.

yes... falling off a mountain would not be fun at all ;) lol

As far as Zora being a fatty, I don't think she really is... But of course let the experts decide as I am not an expert on snakes...

As far as the line goes, I believe that to be as simple as a muscle line. From what I've seen, I've held many snakes that had lines that looked exactly like the line in your picture, and it was just the snake's muscle (possibly flexing) as it moves about. I don't think you have anything to worry about there... But again, let the experts from this site let you know what they think (like I've said before, I'm not an expert on snakes... but I am sharing what I have experienced :) ) It's kind of like how a person could flex their muscles, and you see a bunch of defined lines... As a snake is mainly muscle (plus organs and bones and whatnot :) ), I believe that to just be a defined muscle line... but, I haven't noticed one on a snake's back before... mainly on a snake's sides... Anyways, hopefully someone can shed some light on the matter as well :)

Oh, and hope your ankle heals up quickly! :D That story reminds me of the time when my dad also had gotten a little drunk and wound up doing a somersault over the fire pit  luckily, he wasn't hurt or burned at all :spinner: lol
