The snake will find a way. You will be surprize how high they can climb.
When it come to securing the tank there is not a easy "open up" solution.
Some use clips to secure lid. Some use weight of some sort. You will have to find a store that that sell fish tank lids. For now you should cover it with anything but supply venting holes too.

good luck

i was thinking of making a top for it myself using the material off of an old screen door we have.. making a frame and holding it down somehow??

I've seen people mention using pegboard for a top. It has ventilation and it's relatively easy to cut.

the screen door idea is good to use im using a door for my boa tank and to keep it closed so he cant get out im useing really strong velcro to keep it closed its kinda hard to open but it def works

here is an idea that came to my mind today whern i looked at my supplies.. let me know if this sounds good..

i have some ply wood in my yard.. i cut out 2 pieces so that each pice covers half of the tank.. i made handles on both peices. made the wood fit perfect on the top of the tank.. pretty heavy so it wont come off.. then once the wood fit snugg on the top of the tank i made a sqpare whole in the middle.. about 6 in by 10 in.. and covered it with screen door material for ventilation.. ill have some pics of it tomro.. if you understand what im saying.. does it sound like a good idea?

sounds like a good i dea for right now being that its a young snake, but older ones are stronger then you would think

if you have enough weight of coarse it wont get the top open...if you tie it id have like 3 spots were its tied on both sides and the middle
