Something's wrng with the eyecap

bataco

Daniel
I just saw that my snake's eye cap it's pressed, like a ping pong ball, like if someone pushed it. i don't know how it could happen, with skin shed it will recover?

i just saw it's not only the eye cap, also some scales from the bottom near the head :s i think she hurted trying to open the lid. :shrugs:

sorry for my english, for example when you have a ping pong ball and you press it with your finger, you make a hole in the ball, the eye looks like that, and some of the lower part of the snake has some broken scales, like a bad shed, she hurt herself with the tank lid, she was able to get to the top and the lid was to tight so she rubbed her body with the tank and rip his skin was damaged

Hey, your English is better than my Spanish. I just needed more info.

I think it sounds like a retained eye cap. If you look really closely you can see kind of a ragged edge around the "lens". I think the first thing I would try is to put the snake in a small container with a wet towel and let it soak for an hour or two. Then see if you can rub it off. Be very gentle.

If that doesn't fix it well think about other things.

Yeah I think is that... It won't fix with shed? I'll try the water thing, and what about the other damaged scales? :( I need to do something with that lid argh I feel so guilty

Guilty is ok. Don't let it happen again, that is stupid.

Wait until she has a shed or two, the damage may not be that bad.

I'm just curious, how's the snake's humidity? I know that with Ball Pythons, denting in their eyes can be caused by dehydration. Do you think that's a possibility? (I don't have any snakes, but i've done a lot of research - I thought i'd throw it out there, though.) Hopefully it'll be fixed with the next shed. :)

thx suzy, the humidity is low but she's a California king snake, a high humidity is not very important with this king of snake
