Hey everybody:

I was wondering, because it was suggested to me at the pet store and it does seem like a good idea, if it's wise to buy a separate cage/container for feeding needs? Or establishing a separate area of the tank that is for feeding only? It was suggested to me that feeding shouldn't be done in the same space that the snake actually lives in. Are they trying to make more money or is that good for my snake?

Hello, welcome to the forum.
What I've read is that you can feed it seperate cage, to protect your hand when you go reach in it's home, the snake's viv.
I usually feed my snakes in cardboard box and my old cricket cage.
They know when it's feeding time when I put them in there.
 
Its nice to use a separate feeding container for a few reasons. I always take the time to weigh my snakes before a feed, and its easy to do so while they are in their feeding tub. Also, the tub is bare, so there is no substrate ingestion concerns. I have heard that some snakes can get a little snappy when fed in their viv, associating the opening lid and hand reaching in with food, but i have heard many that do feed them inside and have great temperaments. It doesnt have to be fancy, you could feed in a shoebox (if closely watched/secured) if you wanted to. It is also easier to get a picky/nervous eater to focus on their meal when there is nothing around them except for their fuzzy friend. Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new pet :D

You have been given great advice! I also use the time my snakes are out of their viv to clean out the viv. :)

You don't need anything special as a feeding container. I use sterlite shoebox containers. They cost around $2 at Lowe's.

It is good to see another Kentucky member here! :D

Yay more tips!! I'm going to be able to take amazing care of Armand at this rate!! And hooray for Kentucky!! I think I've managed to talk most of my friends into getting snakes as well! :D

Kentucky has a few members here, including me of course! :D

Most of my friends hate snakes. One is scared to death of them. And he screams like a girl if I get one out when he is at my house :p

Dang, that's CRAZY!
I don't get it why people are SO afriad of them!
I don't really have that many friends here yet since I moved up here.
Only couple friends of mine, is so scared of them. I don't get it though.....

I agree, this site IS awesome! One of my friends is terrified of snakes too, and I made her buy Armand with me! Lol! :D

This is great advice! I also clean out the viv when I have Melman eating. Although, I've been thinking about it and wonder if maybe I should wait 2 or 3 days until he expels his waste after eating to clean the viv... :p

Welcome to the forum!! I recently joined also and have already learned so much from everybody here!! They really know their stuff and it's a good idea to take advantage of that!!!

Husband Scared of Snake!!

Hello, and welcome to the forum. I am new also and love it here.

To answer your question I too feed my snake in a Sterilite shoe box from Lowes. It works great and it gives me time to clean his viv out. He knows when he goes in the Sterilite it is feeding time.

Also, as for people being scared of snakes my husband, who lives in THE SAME HOUSE is terrified of our snake (the snake belongs to me and my two boys who are 4 and 6 years old):eek: He too will scream like a baby. I wait till my husband is gone to get Cane out of his cage. It is really funny since my 4 year old wants to sleep with the snake and is't the least bit scared of him. I can sort of understand since spiders TERRIFY me. Lets just say I have enough locks on the snakes cage that nothing could get out or in for that matter....:D

I don't know why people are so scared of snakes...
They are sooo adorable!
I know ALOT of people who is scared to death with snakes,
I got my mom to get over with it, and she loves our snakes!
But one time, my snake crapped on her when she was handling
our snake for the first time, and she went " OH YOU B#$@#H!" lololol
it was hilarious!

How old is your snake, do you know?
I have awsome videos of our snake feeding, and it comes in with credit music from movie.
 
Hey Mom,
Just make sure that what ever you use to feed in is secure. Don't make this an opportunity to escape.
