Does anyone on Vancouver Island have African soft furred rats? Or anyone in BC? I'd like to start a breeding colony sometime soonish and Air Canada/West Jets rates are not looking attractive to me.
 
I don't know of anyone but for some reason I thought I had read somewhere that they are illegal in Canada or parts of it.
 
rats are illegal in alberta, but apparently asf are legal?

i'm assuming this is because asf can not survive in the wild here.

i know there are at least a few people with asf in bc but i can't think of names you can try posting on reptiles canada,
 
'K, I will try other forums too. They are legal in Canada - I was just asking a breeder in Ontario about that actually.

I am still not clear on Alberta though because I know there are private rat breeders there.

most places that sell frozen rats actually get their rats from sask or bc breeders, if they do have live rats, i hope they are extremely careful as they are illegal.
and the ban is enforced.

i'm pretty sure there was a discussion on asf and they were allowed, but i cannot remember where it was.
 
Canada ASF

They are totally legal in Ontario I made sure of it before I got my colony, I have some but its quite a way to ship to BC.
