rat snakes venoumous???

This can also be applied to the venom in snakes, although I was under the impression that the species that use constriction as a way to kill were the inferior species and the more advanced were the venomous. So I am curious if this means that it is the other way around?? Very interesting results. Just my .02, feel free to start a Christian witch hunt:sidestep:

I kind of speculated on that I believe, then again, I read it a long time ago when this came up on the boards before. So maybe I did read it from him? As far as inferior though, maybe someone that has hots can answer this- I've fed live before I came to these boards and found out why I shouldn't. My corn snake Holden, can kill a mouse with constriction in about 8 seconds and then be on his way to eating it. It seems to me that a rattlesnake bites and then has to track his prey. Which would you prefer if you had to feed yourself out of the wild?
I guess to really say 'inferior' or 'superior' though, we'd have to compare to that venomous animal they evolved from, not to a more highly evolved modern rattler who's never been an ancestor of our humble rat snake..

OT: You know the Pope is now for Evolution. That news came out last week I believe, pretty interesting stuff. He says the biblical tale of creation is not literal.

I've been bitten numerous times by hatchling corns, and I get itchy from the bite. I have really sensitive skin, and major skin allergies, so I've known that there's something in their saliva that irritates me. Its just a minor itch, nothing to write home about. It doesn't surprise me that their saliva contains trace amounts of venom, though.

Is that true? That is a major deviation from creation.

Not discrediting you in the least bit but I am curious what the source is for that information. First let me say I am NOT catholic, while the catholic church has done many good things for many people I find it hard to agree with many of their views. Many of their teachings directly contradict biblical teaching. Don't want to start a war I am just stating my opinion, if this post is too abrasive would a MOD please delete it. On another note if you would like to discuss this issue with me please feel free to PM me and we can duke it out:fullauto:. To say that the creation story is not to be taken literally, I can somewhat agree with only in the sense that(again this is my personal faith and I am not one to push it on others, although I do believe it is truth) God does not operate in time like we do, we can see this in the fact that he is omnipresent meaning everywhere at once which means anywhere in time as well. 7 days to him could have been millions of years in our definition of time, was it? That is not for me to say, I do not believe that species evolved from one to another, however through time certain species may have died off, some may have adapted and changed(within their species). Again if this is too abrasive would a mod please delete or edit it.

yeah..well thats pretty much what I was saying....I was just throwing the possibility of *where*...chickens came from..and its been pretty much prooven that modern birds, carry genes evolved from extinct reptiles....
Archaeopteryx is pretty much a clue, and there is more evidence...but ANYWAY!..
I don't kniow what you meant by "Christian witch hunt"...considering I am not religious in any way shape or form...nor do I believe in any god/higher being.....so...whatever....no biggie..

If you believe in evolution, they also thought they found the skull of the "missing link" but that turned out to be a pigs skull. All I was saying about the witch hunt is I am the minority here on this forum in that I am a Christian and was making a joke that I would be persecuted for my beliefs. Just messing around.

nah...thats fine...Believe what you want....I was just messin with ya..I really don't care.
P.s...I just have a hard time telling when someone is tryin to be funny, because..ya know..its hard to show emotion behind words in text.

He says it is not incompatible with the bible. But there will be no apology forthcoming for Charles Darwin..

P.S....>Everyone knows Charles Darwin is the freakin' MAN!...(I am in the process of happily reading his 4-book set)

anyway..sorry to get off topic!..HA!:grin01:

On his death bed he claimed it was all theory, just keep that in mind. It is a theory

But remember that "Just a theory" does NOT mean "just a guess".

The definition of "guess" is "to think, believe, or suppose"
The definition of "hypothesis" is "a proposition, or set of propositions, set forth as an explanation for the occurrence of some specified group of phenomena"
The definition of "theory" is "a comprehensive explanation of an important feature of nature that is supported by many facts gathered over time."

If you believe that "microevolution" can happen... well, "macroevolution" is the sum of thousands of tiny microevolutions. Assuming that one is possible but the other is not is like stating that a bread crumb can exist but a loaf of bread cannot. The facts point that microevolution certainly occurs - and thus that macroevolution is also highly likely.

I find it interesting that Dr. Fry has stated that they found venom proteins in ratsnake saliva... it would certainly explain some of the skin reactions people have to bites.

I have found this very interesting and so I thank you. I saw a program in which they created a chicken embryo with teeth and a tail. My sister was watching it. (Shes doing dinosaurs at uni lol).

Yeah, the word Theory when used by scientists never has a 'just' in front of it.. I believe that using the term one way when it's meant to be used the other is what they call in Logic "equivocation" (though it might be "amphiboly"- I better find out which, got a test on the informal fallacies tomorrow, LOL)

Here's a good overview of a Scientific Theory..

haha..you do realize that most "Theorys"...are prooven true...and at least a theory has undergone many tests and plenty of research....and factors that "exist" are looked at...not just some bedtime story for people sinking in life, that need something to grab to say a-float.:nyah:
*support science....not superstation*
but..ha...I digress...:grin01:

.........Yeah dude!..it was on the Science channel..I taped it...I can't recall what it was called tho...
It was a great program...it also said that the "mutations" also sometimes just naturally happened...the gene for some reason just snapped on...weird...

"I find it interesting that Dr. Fry has stated that they found venom proteins in ratsnake saliva... it would certainly explain some of the skin reactions people have to bites. "
yeah that makes sense..I hope my yellow rat never bites me...I don't think he will...(knock on wood)...but he is so relaxed..haha..
BTW...where can I find this report..I'd love to read the whole thing...Thanx
