freezing mice?

Well i was looking around this section of the forums and some people are raising their own feeder mice. Someone mentioned that they are going to freeze any left over babies they have. Can someone explain the humane way of doing this?

freezing mice

There is no humane way. I did it a couple of times and felt bad. The mice went from warm tropical fl. weather to extreme artic weather..The pet store where I live told me to bring any mice I need frozen and they will gas them. Its almost intantaneous...

How does a CO2 chamber work? Does it just remove the Oxygen and the mice fall asleep? Would it be a quicker end for the mouse to use a mouse trap?

if you have the time to get the mouse to go into the trap, the co2 takes minutes if that they just slowly go to sleep.

well the gas for the mouse you do slowly so they fall asleep. fast would be not good as they run around when they cant breath and drop dead. as for a mouse trap i never tried. but if you have a pillow case and a wall..i have done that. not the nicest way but better then the freezer since i have done that and i almost wanted to cry when my pair of mice died ball up to one another frozen to death..so if you cant make a fancy mouse gas chamber. i got with a bag. just do it very fast. my reptile shop kills them like that or has a small little hammer thing. works too.

I seen that you found what you have been looking for, but here is my two cents on this anyhow.

I euthanize and freeze a lot of rodents. There are two ways to do it, first and the method I use is Co2. I use plastic tubs put the animals in it and run a line in to introduce the gas in. The animal falls asleep and the simply stops breathing. The second method is cervical dislocation (short and to the point, breaking their neck). This is easily done with mice by holding the mouse’s tail and placing an item such as a pencil on the back of the neck. Give a sharp tug at the tail and the deed is done. This method is not as pleasant to watch because of the twitching nerves. Both methods I've described are fast and clean.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. I think i'll stick to the CO2 chamber. The second method you described is to much for me. I don't want to do it wrong lol.
Anyways, i appreciate the feedback.
