Important snake questions, need help!

Hello all. My snake is probably 14 inches long, maybe a little longer. I have fed him twice so far in his life with me (since the pet shop). Both times he was a really good eater; as soon as he saw the food he would eat it. I noticed today that his colors looked a little bit washed out. He did not eat. He would go up to the food, and then not eat it, he would go around it. My question is: Do you guys think he is shedding? Is he old enough to shed? If he is what should I do?! How do I get him to eat if he is not? I am feeding him the small little mice babies, pinkies. They are not too big. Last feeding was 5 days ago.

My snake books are going to be ordered monday, so I would appreciate your help! Thanks a lot friends

Oh, one more thing. He is an albino, so I don't know if that will effect the whole "blue" thing of the eyes.

If the snakes color has changed and gone dull it sounds like it's about to shed. And it might refuse food while in "blue". All is fine with your snake.
Just wait until after it shed to feed again. This is normal.

Take care.

Corns are old enough to shed from the time they are born- in fact, they shed more as babies than as adults as they are growing.

It sounds like your baby is going into shed... Some corns eat fine while in shed, others don't touch the food... It sounds like yours doesn't want to so I would wait until after he sheds to try feeding him again (also- don't worry, they can go quite awhile without eating so he will be fine if you wait until after he sheds).

Also- it would be a good idea for you to read the FAQ stickies at the top of the forums- they will have lots of good info for you until you get your books...

As far as the shedding process goes, You will notice the snakes colors get faded first and then the eyes will cloud over for a couple of days. The eyes will then clear and your snake will look almost like normal (almost like he's already shed but you can't find the shed in the tank) and then he should shed in just a few days after the eyes clear.

Check your humidity... you want it about 60 or 70% during shedding and you can achieve this by either misting the enclosure or creating a humid hide (just do a search on this forum for humid hides)

Yes it's very possible that he's getting ready to shed :)

Young corns when growing well, will probably shed every 4 to 8 weeks and some of them don't like to eat around this time, so don't worry, it's completely normal.

If you know you've got low humidity, then you could lightly spray him once a day with fresh water from a spray bottle, or make a humid hide out of a plastic container, by cutting a hole in it for him to gain access and filling it with damp sphagnum moss (damp paper towels will do, but they dry out quicker) and place that in his tank.

Seeing as your guy is an albino, then you'll probably notice his colours go "pink" instead of "blue" and that's normal also.

Hope that's helpful and don't forget to post pics once he's got his new shiny skin on ;)

To Hammy: I think we're in agreement that your baby is going to shed... just read the faq's and do a few searches on the site and you'll be fine!! Good luck! and like Susiela said, we'd love to see pics after he sheds!!
