ok so my corn snake is a baby..i just got him from petco about 2 weeks ago..and he never comes out of his hiding spot..is that normal???

I have had my miami phase for a while and she is almost never seen out of her hide. I know she goes out sometimes because she never poops in her hide (does it in a corner).

u guys seem like yall know what ur talking about..yall should go 2 the feeding problems section and answer my question..

yea but i got one of those red lights that i turn on at nite...isnt that what im suppose 2 do???lol

I have a black light ... seems to work better than the red ... maybe I'm off base but ... the light doesn't seem so harsh. Little snow moves about at night when she thinks she's alone.

Guys, most here would recommend Under Tank Heaters (heat pads) instead of lights. Corns are not known for basking and the UTH's allow them to digest more easily.

EDIT: Oh, and it may help to read the "stickies" at the top of each section on this site- they'll give you plenty of information about how to heat your tank, feeding, shedding, etc.

I have a uth ... the little booger wont stay at the bottem of the tank ... hence the lights ... she hides at the top in the shade but still at the top ;)

My guess too would be that the snake is "hearing" you guys talk or move around too!
Cyrus I think is one of the more social corns (at least from what I have read on here) and he still spends a lot of time in his hides. He is always ready to come out and about (except after feedings) and visit the family and get some loving, but he likes his private time too!

I agree with everything said in here, I know my daughter's little hatchling doesn't move around alot when we can see her, once in a while she will. For us to see her out and about its lights out and I turn on a 50W ExoTerra Moonglo (they are designed not to throw heat I've had my probe under it and that's almost true it raised temps 1*F after about 2 hours). The MoonGlo sends a soft blue light supposedly reminiscent of moonlight, I dunno, but my leopard geckos and snakes all move around when its on and nothng else is.

I've had my snake for a couple of months now, and he's OK with handling, but he's still jumpy because he's a baby. He does enjoy hiding, and alot of it. Try not to rip him from his hides too much, I think it might be a little hard on the little guy.

Page, if I didn't take my little one out of her hide every once in awhile I'd rarely be able to see her and get her fed!
