Way over the Deep End
I hate intros.. I am new to corn snakes, and the site. Someone came to the place where I work with a rather large corn.. and all his stuff.. looking for a home.. I could not resist. 2 months later and I just adopted a second under similar (but slightly different) circumstances.. I already love them.. The first is not eating, which was actually what I was searching for when I found the site.. I got my answer before I even joined.. (just looking for how long to wait to bring him to a vet.. ), and though he still hasn't eaten, he is healthy in every other way.. so not going to panic yet.

I am also the owner of 4 dogs.. (3 schnauzers and a beagle/basset hound mix) aged from 14 years to 1 year..

I see my intro turned into a description of my snakes and other critters.. but.. I never know what to say about myself.. I am just me..

I am not known for posting questions generally.. but I do try to respond to them.. and read all of them... so if I am not speaking up.. I'm just waiting until I feel I have something to add to the conversation.. That's it, I guess.. Horrible grammar and all.. (I'm tired, and not in the mood to edit an intro..)

Well, it's an interesting intro, to say the least. Gotta love a person who speaks their mind. So grab a chair, make yourself cozy and get involved. We've got a good group with an amazing assortment of temperments and lifestyles, with one common ground which is our love of all things scaly. So if that's your cup of tea, you'll fit right in.
Welcome! :wavey:

Hello Kaija, welcome.
I see you know that the answers are already here. I never asked questions when I came here either, just read a lot and learned.

Tim66: The first one is a 4 1/2 foot Okeetee .. seems pretty mature as the yellow is really bright under the head.. The new one is about 3 feet.. I was told it was a candy cane, but when I went to get it I could tell he/she (haven't had it probed yet, so not sure which) wasn't.. it looks like a reverse okeetee.. pretty much a similar pattern to the first, just has white around the saddles instead of black.. and the orange is a bit more pinkish.. I'm not good at the guess the type game yet.. not enough experience.. they are both beautiful..

And as for the "giving them a better home" thing.. actually the first was given up because the guys son was shipped over to Iraq.. the snake was well cared for and handled regularly.. the father couldn't care for it, and I guess they tried everything else. the second was a bit .. iffy.. it was in a tank that was 20 gallons TALL, not long.. and is over twice as big around as the other one .. the woman told me that they fed it two mice twice a week.. which from what I've read is insane for a mature snake.. It's going on a diet now.. (not drastic change, just going to one mouse each feed for awhile)

So far, so good.. they both seem to have wonderful personalities.. and get along well when being handled.. (I don't keep them together, but have handled them together)

Hello Kaija,.... I love it when people come here with their first snakes and they are close to adult.... They are established and probably won't give you the grief a hateling would...
I also loved the intro..... You sound like a No BS type, so you'll fit right in here...LOL
Now some pics for the children,or they'll get upset...LOL

Actually I have one on my profile, but for some reason I'm having problems getting my pics to load into an album..
Here's the first (and apparently older) one:

my friend's daughter named him Auryn (he has been checked.. male )

here is the second one which my friend named Cypher (I wasn't feeling creative, so gave others the chance to name them)

Note: the shed in the second pic came from one of the hides.. I hadn't noticed it until it fell out for the pic

Well welcome to the forum! Those are some really nice snakes ya got there :0) And I'm glad your finding the answers you seek already on this site..There are so many nice people here who are always willing to give a helping word of advice to anyone who needs to know something :0) I'm sure you'll enjoy it here..Welcome!

Your second snake is definitely an amel of some sort. Reverse Okeetee would be a safe bet. ;)

I know some people here who can tell a snake's gender from looking at its vent, although it's not as accurate as probing would be.

Welcome to the site.

Adam.
