Update on scout the black rat snake

David... you're doing it again.

I was VERY impressed with how you handled yourself and started asking questions, posting more and bragging/pontificating less after the last incident. And trust me, I am NOT easily impressed, especially by teenagers because I deal with them and their egos all day!

That being said....

You're doing it again. People who know more than you are saying "Hey, ease up." And you argue with them and it turns into a debate. Stop hiding behind other forums and friends. Take that next step to adult-hood and stand by YOUR thoughts and beliefs, but please base them on SOLID facts.

I've been keeping snakes for 3 years now. I currently have 12 snakes in my care here. A month ago, I had 13. Then I made a stupid, stupid mistake and my baby Nelson's got out from a cage I had improperly secured and died because of it. It was MY fault David, and I have three years experience! I tell people with less experience than me all the time "LOCK YOUR VIVS! Be careful! Be diligent!" and it still happened to me.... time in the hobby matters not... number of snakes matters not... size of those vast quantities of snakes matters not... and venom matters not... what truly sets an expert apart from a neophyte is the WILLINGNESS and ability to learn new things, to sort good from bad information, and to expand his or her practices to accomodate new thoughts, ideas and information. What makes a person an expert is the wisdom to know when they need to bow to someone else who, at the moment, has more relevant experience....

There's nothing wrong with admitting you're not doing something right, David... there's nothing wrong with incorporating the advice of others who have been there done that-- it saves time and may save your snakes life. I agree with others... humility (meaning the act of being humble) is critically important to success in life.

Lauren the reason I got so defensive was that in the first page of this whole mess I said I was going back to my normal feeding charts 2 pinks a week whcih is okay for an 18in black rat snake. And I kept haveing people tell me that I wouldnt go back but I already have! So tehn I keep getting the whole do this do that when I already said I would go back!

I have had enough! I have spent the first half hour of the morning of my ONLY day off from work this week having to read this thread because of the multiple reported posts that stuffed my e-mail. And I am NOT surprised that snakemaster24 is the cause once again.

David, you have been warned multiple times. You have been given many chances to correct your entire attitude and yet, I see you are at it again.

However, there are quite a few other members that have posted in this thread that also need to be warned about the name calling and general inflammatory posting.

I am going to go gargle now in an attempt to get the nasty taste out of my mouth, calm down and read some other posts, then come back to this one to see exactly how I will moderate this thread. Of course, Dean and Mike have also had their e-mails stuffed with this garbage and it wouldn't surprise me to find that one of them has simply started swinging his proverbial ax by the time I get back.

First off David. You seem to DEMAND respect from the members here but GIVE no respect to anyone who may offer advice different then what you think. Do I feel some members are being a bit harsh to a kid? possibly, but then again I read how you tread those members and think to myself HAVE AT IT WITH THIS SPOILED BRAT, who's parents obviously indulge his whim without knowing what the proper care of his animals are themselves.
It sounds like they just give you more snakes to hush you up so they themselves don't have to deal with you and make you turn to forums to get your attention you seem to desire.
David, you claim to have gotten back to a normal feeding schedule, but allowed the flaming to go on for a bit before you said that. Why is that? why didn't you in your original post state that yes you fed your snake 7 mice in a week, but have now gotten him back on his original feeding schedule.
I think I know why, because you wouldn't have gotten the much needed attention(yes, negative attention is as good as positive to some kids who don't get enough either way), you so desire.
Please, be honest with us and heed the wonderful advice you have gotten from so many experts in this wonderful hobby we all share and try very hard NOT to get defensive when their advice doesn't agree with what you are doing with you snakes.

Are you refering to the many people who have time and time again offered excellent advice? Or David who has time and again returned thier offers of excellent advice with ridicule and rudeness.

Well, I sorta seen this coming. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize if I offended anyone. It wasn't my intention. Rereading this entire post for the third time, I can see how it got a bit out of hand. I am not pointing fingers, but we all should have realized that we were dealing with a child, not an adult. That is no excuse! I am an adult. It did get out of hand! Even though I think some of it was justified.

I am sorry to Susan and the other members of the forum!

I see no reason to apologize for what was very good advice. Did some return the ridicule they received? Possibly, but why not? He hides behind his age, but if you will look at the ages of many of our members who do NOT ridicule, downplay and berate members with much more experience then him and see they are not any older then him, yes what was said to him was much deserved.
Susan, I understand what your getting at, but honestly I feel this kid NEEDS to have his eyes opened IF POSSIBLE by someone. It seems as though he needs a 2x4 knocked over his head at times, but we still as a group TRY to inform him of the errors of his ways.
Does that make us bad people, and are we suppose handle this boy with kid gloves? I know the kid is looking for any attention he can get, I've seen this kind of behavior many times with kids i've worked with at school, and know how hard it is for these kids to fit in. But in my uneducated experience it is best to allow these kids to be given the same brakes as other kids their age.
Just my opinion, which probably means little.
