Hi all this a corn my roommate brought home and gave to me he was taken from a kid we go to school with who had him in a 10 gal tank with no bedding, no hide, nothing to climb on, only things in the tank were a corn and a water dish. the snake was also never handled and was also only given live fuzzys and was never feed in a feeding tank. all things considered he is starting to come around to people and frozen food. only had him for one month and he has already quit biting and rattleing his tail every time his tank is opened. ive been callin him mr. creepers

Brava! You ROCK! And your friend. Great work taming this poor guy. Love to see pics of his new setup!:bowdown::bowdown:

right now he is still in the 10 gallon tank that we got with the snake with Zilla jungle mix bedding (which he loves to burrow himself in) a hide, a peice of driftwood for climbing, as well as one of those flexible vines for climbing. next weekend i am gonna make him something bigger(will post pics then) he seems a little cramped. he is right around 3 feet long.
Does anyone know how to tell the age of a snake? is there a way?

From what I understand its near impossible to tell their age :(

Yeah he is deffinitely cramped. Once they hit 2 feet they should be in at least a 20 long tank from what I have read. So if what you make is at least the size of one of those you'll be ok :) Keep us posted!

yeah i figured there was no real way to tell his age. though im not sure he is full grown. (he shed shortly before we got him says the previous owner then just shed again two weeks ago). And yes the tank will be a lil longer than a 20L and twice as deep and definatly taller.

3 feet definitely male? Nah I doubt he is full grown. I read males are almost always more than 4 ft full grown. Good luck with your new friend!

Hey, I thought we had a rule about no more people from PA.

:roflmao::roflmao: I thought so too (although I don't mind more Pennsylvanians).

lol is this true will i be banned for being from pa... i sure hope not

You won't, of course. Wade likes to have fun, as do the rest of us around here. Congrats on the new snake (and kudos for helping the poor guy and working to get him a better enclosure).

I have a male that is 4 years old and only around 3 feet (looks similar in size to yours in that photo). He's just a little guy. Then again I have 2 males that are 4+ feet, so yours could be full grown, but probably not.

As for a taller tank, he probably won't use the space. The two adults that I have in 20Ls don't use their vertical space except to try to escape, which just causes them to fall (and anything much taller than a 20L could cause injury if a snake fell from the lip under the screen onto some driftwood or something). Just something to consider before you run out and buy a tall tank. :) Make sure to give him plenty of hides in his new bigger abode.

Welcome to the forum!! :D

Hello, caleb, welcome.
Looks like you've already started using this site well, I'm sure the snake is less stressed now.

yes the site has been usefull to me when i first got him last month i was going to post with a ton of questions but instead after i signed up i just lurked and used the search function to answer my questions.(i know some online forums get annoyed with noobs asking the same questions over and over when there is a search function to be used.)

As for the taller tank this is something i was unaware of so i probably wont build it much bigger than a 20L.

Thanks to all for the replies
