Snake safe bug bomb?

Ok. It has rained here for weeks! As a result, my apartment has experienced an explosion in the bug population! We have always had a problem with fruit flies and some other tiny flies as a result of our neighbors not always taking their trash down to the dumpster in a timely manner. Yeah, I've let the land lady know, but she doesn't do anything about it and the neighbors don't care either. Well, with all the rain and the bag of trash that has been on the deck upstairs for the last week, we have been over run with the gross little things. They are breeding like mad, and since I don't have AC, I usually leave the windows wide open 24/7. I have to keep my windows closed since they are so small they go right through the mesh. I desperately want to get rid of as many as I can, but I think bombing the apartment is the only way to do it. I have even made a truce with all the spiders around here. They usually get squished by my knight in shining armor (hubby) because I am terrified of spiders, but I have been trying hard to ignore them hoping they will catch and eat some of the bugs. We live back in the woods near a lake, so there are lots and lots of spiders around here. Icky!

Does any one know of any insect killer or some sort of bug bomb that I can use without the need to have my sister snake sit? She lives with our mom and I don't think Mother Dearest would appreciate my little buddies. I also have a fish tank, although I'm not quite as concerned with that. I can always seal it up with lots and lots of plastic wrap and duct tape. Any suggestions that are snake, fish, and kid friendly are appreciated! I'm willing to try just about anything at this point!

Thanks in advance,

I don't know of any animal safe bug bomb or insect killer but if you have a room with a door then you can still use the bug bomb. I move all the animals in one or two rooms then bomb the rooms with no animals then after they are done I take the animals out of the rooms that were not bombed and do them. I don't know if that will work in you apartment but that's what we do. And as for my fish I turn off their air stones (still leave the filter on though) and put towels over them and they are fine. It doesn't take long the bombs only take two hours. Good luck hope you can come up with something. We had an insect explosion here lately and it was driving me nuts.

many people use bug bombs in there snake rooms to get rid of mites which are all through there colony. I dont know the brand they use, though...

I heard about a product on the radio today, a "pet and kid safe" pest killer, but do you think I had a pen to jot it down? No. Ugh. I wonder what would happen if I sprayed the suckers with mite spray...hmm...I think I'll have to go experiment! Can't hurt anything!

If it comes down to it, I could probably move the snakes to my bedroom. The bugs haven't gotten in there badly yet probably because for the most part the windows are closed (one faces the parking lot and the other faces the front walk way where people yell and laugh and be noisy until all hours of the night...ugh) and I keep a fan on. The spaces at the top and bottom of the doors are pretty wide, but maybe I could jam a few towels or rags in there or something. *sigh* I almost can't wait for cold weather to come back.
