Zilla Fresh Air Screen

Hi folks, just got a new baby corn snake (see pic below!) and I was just wondering if the Zilla Fresh Air Screen was a good choice.

I've got it on top of her 20L tank, secured down on all four sides with industrial velcro, and bungee cords.

Has anyone had a problem with them getting through the mesh on these? It seems pretty small, but I'm just being cautious and I've heard they are escape artists and can get through anything with a bit of determination.

I have the same lid and tank. It seems to work fine. My corn snake is about 4 months old and has never pushed through or gotten out

And just a question, is that sand on the bottom of your viv? Because someone told me that was bad. If baby snakes gets sand on its food it could irritate its insides or something like that...? Maybe not...

the lid sounds ok, but what is industrial velcroe? I would advise you get clips that go on the sides of the lid and keep it from popping off. They usually have them at petco.. i can't find a pic of one, but maybe someone else can describe them for you...

They clip on the frame of the lid and then can be set to go under the lip of the tank in between the glass and plastic to secure it down.

I have just looked at those clips and maybe AB has a different selection than here in SK, but you can't get those here. Just got to Petland, Petsmart etc. and tell them you want screen top clips for preventing your snake from escaping out of his screen top on his aquarium, they will know what you want. We have tons of them here but the batteries in the camera are dead right now.

Hi Toki :wavey:

Just give the screen a once over where the mesh meets the frame to look for any manufacturing defects, otherwise the mesh should be strong enough. I used one of those screens for 5 years. I did have an escape, however, the tank I was using at the time did not have the trim at the top so I couldn't use clips and just weighted the screen down - obviously wasn't enough as my guy was able to prop the screen up and slither out. Sounds like you've got double security with the velcro and bungee cords, but if you want to pick up some clips I know Pisces has some in the back across from the tarantulas.

zoology, those are exactly what I was thinking of and have used!!!

btw I love sliding lids they are so much more handy
