    Happy Mother's/Nerodia Day?

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to skip this. I ran out of time at lunch yesterday. Mid-morning is when I start to look for snakes basking by the river. When the sun is up high enough to shine down on the rocks and logs at the edge of the river and the edges of the treelines facing the sun. These...

    Happy Mother's/Nerodia Day?

My Sweetie slept in on Mother's day, so I did my usual thing and headed down to the river for a few hours. The temperature was decent, no jacket required, and the sun was in and out of light cloud cover. Conditions like that after the water warms up a bit in spring are perfect for basking...

    November watersnake

I was in our local National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday and I was very surprised to see a Northern Water snake (nerodia sipedon). I get out every weekend and I haven't seen a snake for the last six weeks. Recently we've had several nights in the upper 30's and a few frost warnings.

    Early snakes in VA

I have a few pics from the past two weekends. So far it's just been garters and watersnakes, which is normal for here. Maybe tomorrow I'll turn up something different. Some morning T.s.sirtalis pics. All three within about a 45 minute time frame, when the sun got just high enough to shine...

    What snake is this?

Davidmaster hit it on the first answer. In VA we have Nerodia sipedon with different colors and patterns. I didn't get the whole snake in these pics, but you can see how some of the adults have no pattern to ID.

    09 Ghost Stripe/Cube Progression [Titan]

I took some much better eye pics today, the key is to hold it. The only good way to get pics of this snake is in your hand, otherwise she's like a straight line and moving. The silvery-gray color is pretty close to real life. They remind me of watersnake eyes when they're like this. The blush...

    09 Ghost Stripe/Cube Progression [Titan]

Titan is my houseguest for the holidays so I'm getting some practice taking snake pics. My Cheerio is very easy to photograph, and now I see why you guys have trouble getting good pics of some of your snakes. This one hides most of the time, and if it's out it's moving. I got a few pics that...

    09 Miami Progression [Azriel]

I'm taking care of Nicole's little ones over the holidays while she is traveling, I'm also taking picture-posting liberties. Of course I couldn't have baby snakes in my house without getting pics! If you can focus your camera you can't help but get a good-looking pic of this snake, and he is a...

    Cheerio's annual Halloween post

Happy Halloween! It was raining here for the evening so Cheerio couldn't go out trick-or-treating. She stayed inside and gave out treats tonight. Don't ask me about the pirate thing, her choice.
