Diving my Cage

AliCat37

Michelle's Candied Corns!
I just finished dividing my 4 x 2 showcase cage into two 2x2 sections. I used insulating styrofoam for the middle, covered it with quickrete concrete for the natural look, and then used great stuff (the expandy-foam) to hold it in place and ensure there were no gaps the snakes could get through. I then taped cardboard between my two glass panels to make sure that there would be no escapees through the panes. Only one side is done and decorated because it has the area for the heat pad built in, the other side will require me to build my own heat pad area. But any way, my motley boy is going on the left, anery girl on the right.

The wall turned out a lot better than it looked like it would. It had some issues with parts of it chipping off as I tried to get it in there.. But it's mostly toward the top which is not visible unless you're trying to get a critter out. I am probably going to color the expandy foam with a crayola marker lol

I also just realized the thread should be called "Divided my Cage." Not "Diving my Cage" lol.

I'm so excited to move him into it on Saturday. I just fed today so I couldn't move him >.>

I didn't even notice the title, ha! Guess I knew what you meant. I really like how the texture turned out, looks really natural.

Thanks everyone! I am happy with the way the texture settled too. It didn't look so promising yesterday but it turned out quite well!

Moved my motley boy and my anery girl into the divided cage today. Hopefully they won't find any spots I missed and escape. I'm going to be very careful with my cats and the door to my room being shut the next few weeks.

Here's the pics of the completed project and Envy, my anery girl's side.

I am not so worried about the cats getting in.. it's the snakes getting out. Earlier this year, my favorite and first corn snake got out of that cage (the snake I had bought it for) and my cat found him and killed him. I took it pretty hard, he was the sweetest snake I've had and I will never forgive myself for letting him be able to get out. That's why I was so cautious with it this time. I don't care if the snakes get in to each other's side (they shouldn't be able to, but...) I'm just worried about Owl getting through the glass, so I stuck cardboard in there haha. So, just in case, I'm keeping the cats out unless I'm there and my door closed!

I haven't seen all of your snakes, you'll have to show me pics!

I'd feel horrible too if a cat got one of my babies. That's why I am so anxious for my new tank. I don't like the cats on top at all. I have stuff up there but there is room on each end and the cats just think they have to be up there. I just found 2 more snakes I want them both. I have a feeling I'm gonna have to get them and figure out another setup.

My ball python, boa, motley boy, lavender, anery, and frilled are pictured here in this thread, you'll have to go to the second page for good anery pics: http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115379

My hognose: http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116174&highlight=hognose!

And I just posted a pic of my new baby, she's brand new out of the box so I only have this one pic posted so I don't disturb her (my pic is the last post): http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116783&page=4

That's all my beasties. :)
If you get a lot of snakes I would get a rack. My set up is good for the amount of snakes I have.. and I'm not a fan of racks, but Nanci has some really stylish and fancy ones that are well decorated I would look into if (WHEN) I expand my collection/breeding projects in the future.. If you get cages that are stackable it helps a lot.

ohhhh, I love Flatline too, I seem to go for the more neutral shades it seems.

I would love to breed someday, that'd be awesome. I can't even imagine how exciting it would be to see them hatch! I had baby guinea pigs before and that was a lot of fun. I'm getting stackable cages.

Did you change Jello to Toothless?

Yeah I did change the name. I thought he was a girl, but he's DEFINITELY a boy haha. I had originally wanted to name him Toothless, but then I thought he was a she, and I couldn't take him out because he was evil at the time, but now that he is handleable and I know him better I decided to rename him.

I like more neutral colors too. Flatline is hopefully going to end up pretty pink.

I'm going to breed my motley boy to my anery in a few years, I'll get snow motley's from them, so I'm excited. I just need a bloodred het charcoal for my lavender.
