Portland Metro Reptile Expo - pictures

Jessicat

All Pied Everything
Well, my camera and I had a lot of fun this weekend at the expo. There weren't too many corns around. Striped snow was probably the most "exciting" morph I saw. There were some cool animals there though!
Beware, lots of pictures. Hardly any of them are of corns, some are not even snakes! :sidestep:

I was very excited to see that a carnivorous plant vendor was there.

I can't remember what this snake is. My oh my, those eyes!

I should have gotten something in this picture to show scale. This snake was massive! I didn't realize carpet pythons got so huge.

Another cool python

There was one albino ball python at the show, but someone was buying it right as I saw it. I've never seen one in real life before. It was amazing! I guess I can kind of see why the buyer shelled out 1,200 for her. Kind of..

Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of her, as she was being carried away. There were some other cool balls there though. I kind of like the darker look.
Sorry, these pictures suck.
I really liked this girl's pattern

I thought this one was pretty nice looking too. If I hadn't spent all my money on something else I probably would have snagged one. We'll get to that something else in a bit. ;)
IMG_3903.jpg

I took wayyy too many pictures of these next few snakes. They were perfect little models too. The adult had a really nice almost blue sheen.

The breeder took this baby out for me to get better picture of. He was very nice.

I'm kind of kicking myself over these next few pictures. I forgot to set my white balance for the first seven or so, then on the last picture I rememberd. I tried to correct this in photoshop, but I wasn't sure how.
For this picture I just turned down the saturation
satchange.jpg

but I'm still not completely satisfied with the color.

Here's an example of the right white balance and the wrong one:

I really like the terrible yellow one better then the one with the right colors! Does anyone know how to fix this in photoshop?
Changing color and levels didn't really work the way I wanted it to.

A few other non snakes:

There were some pretty awesome Hondurans at the show too. I was immediately drawn in to look at them and then I saw it. A pied Honduran!

The Hypo Vanishing behind them wasn't too shabby either.

This was the $100 bin
The only reasoning I could make of why they were all $100 while the others were around $500-800 was that they were ugly in shed. :grin01:

Okay, still with me?
This is where I made my big purchase.

I've been wanting to make a poison dart frog habitat for awhile now, with a false bottom and back drop. I haven't gotten around to it yet. Well, I lucked out, someone was selling a few custom made tanks! Live plants and all. I fooled around with it a bit, added some drift wood and that. I might eventually add a pitcher plant too. I don't have pictures of the enclosure yet. When I get a nice light that will really show it off I'll get some nice pictures.
I do have some pictures of the frogs I picked up for it though!

First, a few pictures I took of the frogs.

This picture was impossible to get completely in focus due to how TINY this frog was! He was probably about half the size of my thumbnail, and I've got small girly hands.

My pair!
myfrogs.jpg

They look really cool in their tank. I've got them set up in between my boyfriend and I's computers. They've got a crappy desk light right now, which is why I couldn't get very good pictures of them. I'll be getting a hood light for them soon though.
I'm kind of inspired to make some very natural enclosures for my snakes too. The animals just look so amazing in a complete habitat.

Well, I suppose that's it. I'm very glad I went to the expo! I didn't get to meet anyone from the forum, but I wasn't really expecting to. Did you guys enjoy the show as much as I did?

Great Photo's Jessica

Congrats on the Dart Frogs, they are beautiful.

Awesome pictures thanks for sharing.
My favs are the Sulcata, and the dart frogs.

Hopefully I'll eventually combine the two! I definitely have enough fruit flies to keep both happy.

Wonderful photo's! Thanks for sharing your experience there! Looks like you had a great time. Special thanks for Pied Hondo pics! Were they for sale?
:shrugs: If they were I hope you got a name & number, I'd be very interested in them.

I love the uromastix... The pet store here has some and they are so funny to watch... Just hilarious... Thanks for sharing all of the great photos... :)

I believe thats a blood python, probably a borneo.

.

Yes, if you look at the head shot, next picture down, you can slightly see the label. Is Borneo a blood python?

:bang:

Yes, they were for sale. $800 for the pair I believe. I can't believe I did not get a contact number. I even thought of you when I saw them. The good news is though, that there is a list of all the confirmed vendors at the show with contact information. Just looking at the information and available websites helped me narrow it down to 3-4 people. I'll make a few emails and let you know when I hit the jackpot.

Carnivorous Plants..

Wow, that would have been cool to see, just curious how much one can expect to give for a Carnivorous Plant?.. That'd be cool to have... Marsh.

Marshall, do you mean how much did the carnivorous plants cost? There were many different plants there, I was mostly focused on the pitcher plants. They were priced at about $10 for small plants, $25 for plants that were rooted in rocks, and then there were some HUGE plants there that I didn't even look at the prices for.

I've also seen them at places like Home Depot for $4-6, but the quality of the plant was not as good.
