Howdy all!



Well with breeding season here, I thought I'd post another poll on breeding techniques and related issues. (See this post for number of matings poll.)



I personally go for mid 80's with my thermostat set for 84-85.



So...what temperature do you aim for when incubating your eggs?
 
Keep mine in the closet where it stays right around 81-83 (so I picked 82). Incubation time has been right around 55-60 days.
 
Trying for 82 this year.. One thermometer says I am at 79, another says 84, and yet the third is reading 83.. :shrugs:

Talk about a lack of accuracy..

A local breeder friend said the same thing, that she thinks she produces more mature hatchlings by using the lower temp and a slighter longer incubation.
 
I've found they seem to be quite robust and I'd rather not worry about a temp spike that will definitely kill the egss. Had it happen once and now I prefer to just do room temp and avoid the chance of it happening again. I find it takes about 64 days or so.
 
Well, I voted 84, as that's what I'm trying to keep mine at. The actual temp in the incubator I think is closer to 83, and I would adjust it, but I don't want to try adjusting the little hovabator dial, it's too risky. One thermometer, on top of the moss says 84.5, and the one an inch under the moss says 82.

Next year I might try 80-82 degree incubation temps to see the difference in time vs. robustness.

I Got Mine On A Under Tank Heater In A Bowl And Its Not Really That Hot Probally Stays In Mid 70's Is That Good Enough?
 
I've always aimed for 82-84. I don't want to go higher in case of temperature spikes. My current clutch pretty consistantly reads 84 on the bottom and 82 near the top. I'm about 2 weeks to hatch date (day 60 is July 2) and they all look really good. I've always had 95-100% hatch rates.

I do 26 :crazy02: °C , we do you °C here in Europe , not °F
Altough this is a litlle low , hatching starts after 69-72 days .Usually , when some clutches started hatching I go 2 degrees higher because than I can't wait to see them all .
 
I use 81oF ( 27oC ) for all my corns. They take longer than some to hatch but we get less spinal kinks then at higher temps.

Our house stays at around 80-83. Do you think room temp would work well for us? It is 120 outside today, so we don't have to worry too much about it cooling off :laugh: . This will be our first ever clutch.
