MBK & Sinaloan doing their jobs!

Had some slugs laid today, so figured I'd recycle them. My Sinaloan did a mighty fine job last year slurping 'em down, so figured I'd give her a treat today! I thought that maybe my little MBK was juuuuuust big enough to take the smallest of the eggs . . .I really figured that he wouldn't have anything to do with it . . . was I wrong! He was loving the treat! Couldn't really tell that he even had it in him after he was done.

Thanks for looking,
D80

I absolutly love the picture of MBK where he's turned towards you with the slug in his mouth like "what do you want? I'm busy!"

That's kind of neat I guess.. I knew milks and kings ate other reptiles, but I never really gave much thought to them eating eggs. Do they appear to have any trouble digesting the leather-like shell of the slugs? And do all milks and kings eat them, or just certain ones? We have cali-kings, mex-mex's, and a nelsons... and I know we'll get a slug or two when our critters lay, and it'd be nice to be able to offer them up as food instead of tossing them in the trash.

Cool shots, Brent. :) I should have done this last year, but I didn't. I had some weird idea that this might give my kings a taste for eggs, and that they might eat their own eggs someday as a result.

Jenn, I just threw them in with the Sinaloan last year to see what would happen. That's about the best you could do! I would expect any one (or all) of them to enjoy it. As for digesting eggs, I have not noticed any differences in feces from that meal. I have noticed a definite difference in feces after a non-eating hatchling meal . . . "twig-like" would be an accurate description.

I'm not breeding them, so that's not really a concern of mine, BUT I am just a tad bit hesitant that they may choose to go off mice . . . The Sinaloan has proven not to be picky, but that's the first egg treat for the MBK. :shrugs:

I think personally, if I had lizard eggs, I'd shy away from using those.

Thanks for the questions and interest!

Thanks for the info Brent, We'll have to see what happens after our corns lay sometime here in the next couple of weeks.

I personally prefer eggs with my bacon too.:grin01:

That's pretty interesting. I've never really thought about colubrids eating eggs - sounds like a good way of getting rid of the eggs that won't hatch, though.

Beautiful snakes too!
