Two offspring of the late Phaethon

Phaethon was a gorgeous phantom that I lost this year after breeding her. I took her to the vet when I suspected she was eggbound, to find that she was not eggbound, but had an anaerobic bacterial infection in her GI tract and was just holding onto the eggs because she was unwell. She went on antibiotics for 10 days, but then I noticed edema beginning at her vent and proceeding rostrally over a couple of days. Once I decided it wasn't that she needed to eliminate, back to the vet she went. In the car on the way, she began acting very erratically, and when the vet saw her, he said he suspected she was having a circulatory problem and threw a blood clot to her brain. Of course I euthanized her. I didn't feel too badly about it, really. I knew I opened her up to increased risk of problems when I bred her, and chose to take that chance, but I also took her to be seen as soon as I didn't feel things were right on both occasions. So I felt I did my best to minimize the risks I subjected her to. I would have felt TERRIBLE if I'd not taken her to the vet, but I felt I "did right by her."

All but two of her eggs went bad. But these two little ones pipped today. These are the result of a bloodred het hypo to the phantom. And now I've got one of my own obviously-het-bloodred snakes. I was quite pleased with the look of this little hypo when I came home tonight! I'll be keeping him. Don't have a name for him yet, but I'll be keeping him. (I have a babysitter lined up already.)

And if this clutchmate is a girl, I'll be keeping her, too! We shall see . . .

Really sorry about Phaethon - she was a gorgeous girl - but I agree that you definately did right by her. Fingers crossed that the 2nd pippy there is a female so that you have a wonderful pair to carry on her legacy.
That little hypo is an absolute cutie!

He's so cute! Love the little egg tooth. ;)

Sorry for your loss, but I'm also sending "be a girl" vibes to the little pip. Hope you get a nice pair. Good luck!
