New Black Cornsnake

Parrothead

First Time Snake Owner
I only have one good picture of my new black cornsnake, but I figured I'd share it anyhow :)

I put a deposit down on her a couple of days ago and I'll be bringing her home on April first. I plan to keep her in a 20 gallon tank that used to house my fish - they've found a good home as I figured it's time for something different.

Have a great day!

Sweet anery. :D

Black corn is sometimes used to describe anery, but not so much around here.

Thanks for all the compliments :D

I'm really still learning a whole lot at this time - like the proper names of color morphs :p I just thought she was pretty ;)

I know the 20 gallon tank I used to keep fish in will work for her after I clean it right and I've got shredded aspen substrate and hides (coconut half shells that came as bowls for frozed desserts) already. I just ordered up a couple of ZooMed digital thermometers (the kind with the probes) and a ZooMed 10 to 20 gallon under tank heater. A water dish, thermostat (it gets warm here in Vegas - even in my apartment) and screen top with clips should round out the enclosure nicely if I've got my cornsnake care right. Of course I'll keep all the questions in the proper area.

Thanks again and have fun!

Nice Black Corn. As she grows, she will become darker and darker until by her 3rd or 4th year or so, she will be totally black with no trace of a pattern at all.

( Just kidding. ) :D

I KNOW! That would be fantastic! The way they actually go is still nice tho ;).

Isn't there a milksnake or kingsnake that does that? Starts out black and red, and then the older it gets the blacker it gets? Elle has a fabulous pic thread of one floating around here that I always seem to misplace (anyone know where it is?).

Beautiful Anery, btw. They will always hold a special place in my heart, considering an Anery was my first snake as well ^_^.

Kudos and Congrats!

The black rat snake (Elaphe obsoleta obsoleta) is totally gorgeous this way! As a juv, black and grey and it gets blacker and blacker to be totally black as an adult (with a white belly)... just gorgeous... my next snake, I hope...

Thanks again for the kind words everyone :)

After looking at those pictures, I might just have to get one of those black milk snakes! But that's down the road a bit ;)

Just a few more days...
