Introducing Eve [DUW]

As some of you might know, or corn Skittles passed away Tuesday. Monday we had just gotten a new baby and I didn't want to share her until we had her named.

Meet Eve! We did not get many pictures before getting her into her acclimation period, but I'll probably get some more pics in a few more days. She was labeled as a Peruvian red tail boa, but I can't find many differences in common Colombian red tails and her, so she may just be a Colombian. We fell in love with her personality anyway, so it doesn't matter much to me.

This picture could have been so much better. I really like it though, even with it's focus issues.

She's 38", I currently don't have a digital scale big enough for her so no weight yet.

She has a lot of orange/salmon spots.

She likes to "dig" in my hair. Sorry for the sweaty head  It was hot in our bedroom and I had just finished taking care of the other reptiles.

Cage pic...she's currently in quarantine in our bedroom. 40 gal tank for now, it was a great find on Craigslist $30! Either the leo's will get a new bigger home when she grows out of this, or we'll finally get a beardie! Anyway, I left the water dish out, it's just a shallow plastic tub. And I do have a light for her too.

Eve quickly found the hide and rarely comes out of it now. On a rare occasion, she'll poker her head out to catch some of the heat off the light.

Nice looking boa!! Cute name too, my ATB is named Eve (aka Eeeeeevil...she's a nasty witch). I'd wager a guess that she's a Colombian, Peruvians are one of the 'true red tails' (species Boa constrictor constrictor as opposed to Boa constrictor imperator) and as such, have very red tail saddles. They are also not terribly common in the pet trade (and quite expensive). If this is your first boa, welcome to the club, they are fantastic snakes to have. And if not, then you already know how great they are!! :D

It's a BCI(Boa Constrictor Imperator)- Colombian, IMHO.
A Peruvian has different saddles and indeed- redder segments.
You should consider yourself lucky though, peruvians are meaner, and get far too big for comfort.

Thanks for the input!

Anyone know about their color changes? I have not looked it up yet though. She seems a lot lighter (grayer) as soon as she comes out of her hide. And after moving around or whatever, she seems to get darker. Though I am not sure if it's a morning or after noon thing either. Just seems like she gets darker when she starts to wonder around.

Or am I just crazy?

Boas usually shift between light and dark phases-yes.
It is more visible on Hog Isle/Hog Isle crosses/corn isle boas... but all boas have it to some degree.

Oh how neat, I had no idea they changed color.

I want to like boas, really I do, but I can't stop laughing at their moustaches and goatees

Hog Isle don't have'em... aside from that though, it's a matter of handling them to understand their beauty.

And here's an example of a visible light/dark phases change:

That's the same snake mind you (Solaris- a Hog Isle cross).
Nowsdays she's dark as heck... might be gravid, God knows.

She shed late last week and she ate like a champ last night. Having gone from tossing a pinkie in a tub to a small rat dangling from tongs is quite a change. She has quite the fierce strike. She took the thawed rat with no problems though. Took her at least 40 minutes to eat it though. Most of the time was her trying to find the head. Once she got it though, down it went!
