Local Herp "Eastern Painted Turtle"

Mr. Enigma!
A little while ago, my kids came in the house to get me. They found a turtle in the driveway, that was laying eggs. Sometimes it's nice living right next to a river.

Here are the pics.

I actually thought about digging up the eggs and either moving them or incubating them myself, because she laid right in the middle of my driveway. Those eggs wouldn't have survived the pressures of the vehicles moving over them. I dug right where the kids showed me the hole, but they must have disturbed her before she deposited. Oh well, I guess.

I released her one the rivers edge right after we got these shots.

I hope you enjoyed!!?!??!

I love turtles, you see a lot of painted ones where at the field station I'm at. A good number of researchers currently here are working with them....and hopefully we'll have hatchlings within the next couple months.

Good save, and nice to know she was safely released! :)

We have thoes here!! I just love them. We had a million near my grandparents place. It was fun because as a kid, I'd go running at the pond and you'd hear all these plops and splashes where all the turtles and frogs would throw themselves at the water...scary kids!!! lol
Great pics. That sure is a pretty one!

Awesome! One of our turtles is an Eastern paint. She is about half that size and approximately 3 years old. They are neat creatures, and very beautiful.

Neat, Wayne. I have done the exact thing before..found a turtle laying eggs in the middle of a dirt road, and took them home to hatch. Many moons ago.

Thanks Everyone!!

She is very beautiful! I'm glad to have the opportunity to take a few pics of her. It would have been nice to get those eggs, if she deposited them. I guess it is what it is!?!?!
