Does it do phenotypes? That is, is there an option where I can get an output more like:

1/2 Amel, 50% poss het stripe
1/2 Normal het amel, 50% poss het stripe

or atleast like this:

1/2 Amel
1/2 Normal

using the same input you used in your example?

Nope, not in this version ;) I will try to make the program more and more interesting.. So the next version I will add the phenotypes result.
 
It would also be nice if it could combine the traits. I did the following combination:

Female is : Amel Caramel het. Motley
Male is : Amel Caramel het. Motley
Offspring is predicted :
aaeeff -> 25.00% Amel, Motley, Caramel
aaffEe -> 50.00% Amel, Caramel, het. Motley
aaffEE -> 25.00% Amel, Caramel

It would be good if it would say:

Female is Butter het motley
Male is Butter het motley
Offspring predicted:
aaeeff -> 25% Butter motley
aaffEe -> 50% Butter het motley
aaffEE -> 25% Butter
 
Well, I've downloaded it. Now to take it home and see if it runs on my Win95 box.

I prefer to have the individual mutant names. IMHO, amelanistic caramel is much preferable to butter.

By the way, ax is the accepted symbol for anerythristic (AKA anery A). And charcoal is a much better name than anery B.

Here's a link to guidelines for choosing mutant names and symbolizing them for rats and mice. Sections 1 and 3.1 are the most useful. I think we herpers should follow these guidelines for uniformity with the rest of the genetics community.

I wondered if a little window that opens to show all the genotype possibilities would be better than a series of check boxes.

Here's a one locus problem in the black rat snake:
het tyrosinase positive albino x het xanthic//tyrosinase positive albino. Both xanthic and tyrosinase positive albino are recessive to normal, and xanthic is codominant to tyrosinase positive albino.

Results should be
1/4 het tyrosinase positive albino
1/4 het xanthic
1/4 het xanthic//tyrosinase positive albino
1/4 tyrosinase positive albino

Would it take a massive recoding to get those results, Marcel?
 
I have been thinking about co-dominance. Right now I have no solution to add it to my program.. But I will work on it. ;)

I just have to say that I am really impressed. I like the fact that you have the bloodred and some of the others that weren't in the other one. Excellent job, I will definatley be using it. Thanks.

Codominance is no big deal to add once a program can do dominants and recessives. Just use an upper case letter for the first letter of the mutant gene symbol. The normal allele uses the same symbol with a plus sign as a superscript.

The ability to handle multiple alleles is more important, and it may or may not be difficult to implement, depending on the program's algorhythm. There are relatively few cases of multiple alleles in snakes so far. But there are loads in species that have been bred in captivity for many decades or even centuries. IMHO, if a genetics program can't handle multiple alleles, it's just a toy.

Not only have you developed an understating of how it all works but you have given something back to the group by creating a tool for everyone use. Kudos to you my friend and excellent job! I'm looking forward to seeing future developments of your program.

So, one thing I would like to see. In most cases, you can add the het. also in the Genotype. When I switch to Genotype, I only see the "look" of the snake, but in many cases a special look also includes a het.
 
missing morphs

Might want to hunt down the more recent morphs, however.
Unless I'm missing something, you don't have sunglows listed there, nor the new lava corns.
(Grant you, I'm new to all of this, but I thought sunglow was a seperate form).
 
Sunglow is not a dominant-recessive trait. I think you mentioned Sunkissed or HypoB or whatever you'd like to call it.
