He shed a few minutes ago, so we can start the progression thread. For all of you who don't know the development of Kastanies/Chestnuts, prepare for an impressive colour change! You should keep a wary eye on this thread :grin01:

As you can see, they look very similar to ordinary Anerys when they are hatchlings. Only the soft orange line in the neck disclose the different genetics. Interestingly, it seems there's a gender dimorphism similar to Lavenders. Only the males hatch with a very soft tone of orange in the neck, the females show less colour as hatchling, but when they grew up, they become pretty similar to the males.

Very pretty! I want one. I find I really like the darker colored morphs. Humphrey is so bright he almost glows in the dark, and I love the idea of the contrast between bright & muted.

update

I made a mistake. I fed him last night for the first time and left him in the box with his pinky, this morning the pinky was gone (yaaaay!) but there was also a strange white thing in the box. He shed!!

Sometimes I should have a closer look before I took my camera...

ok, here we go, this time really freshly shed ;)

I don't know. I think it would be more intelligent to buy some rosybloods from Don instead of import those from Germany. Don has Kastanie in his stock since this year and I'm pretty sure he'll do some testbreedings with his rosybloods and the german line kastanies.
 
I think he's just one or two weeks before his second shed, but nevertheless...the saddlecolour changes to a nice brown tone and the hint of orange in the neck appears too. I'm looking forward to his shed :dancer:


 
I'm really intrigued now..the color change is really neat, and I can't wait to see more of this little guy. Love the eyes too!

Your right those rosy bloods start the exact same way, dark like the aneries and the proceed to really lighten up. Great looking guy there.
