1 Snake just isnt enough

CornNoobie

No longer a Noobie!
Right, Ive had my 07 Ghost for 7 weeks now, and for everyone that said when I first joined, 1 snake isnt enough. Well.... you were right. Ive ordered my new snake that I get to collect on Wednesday! Its a beautiful looking amel. Just wanted to really thank everyone for all their advice so far, as Im already feeling like I can answer most questions and see problems with other peoples posts!! I will post pics as soon as I receive him and he has settled!

True, true. One snake is never enough. I started with 2 in December 2006 and counting the 2 boas and 3 corns that will be coming in the next few weeks the population is up to 8. Then there will be one more when I find a Banded King as a mate for Queenie. And then one or two more when I get my Green tree pythons next year or so.

So, just make room because you'll need it.

I've had Jake for about 4 months now and number 2 is on its way. I think I will probably just stick to the 2 for a while, but thats because they are going to be a breeding pair and after the eggs hatch I will have tons (all being well) to house and look after till I get homes for them.

Do people get sad giving away their babies? I think I would need to keep 1 at least so I can remind myself of what was achieved! :)

I was just given a Lavender Motley, and the reactions couldn't have been more different.....

Me:"I just added a Lavender Motley to the collection!" (not counting hatchlings, I now have just under 30 snakes).
Him:"I have one less mouth to feed!" (not counting hatchlings, he has over 170 snakes).

regards,
jazz

I got my first corn in October of 05. The second one came in November of 05. January of 06 I got 2 more. You see where this is going? LOL. Its an addition. Kinda like people never have just one piercing or just one tattoo.

How does one stop the snake addiction? :shrugs:

The disease "Snakitis", also known as "Cornsnakaria", also known as "accumulatis repetileosis slitheritis" has no know cure.

The medical community suggestions to non-infected persons that the victims be humored when their ranting suggest more snakes, to be patient with moving the micecicles off the frozen chicken, to offer sympathy when the victims are dejected due to an inperfect shed or a snake mysteriously vanishes; to share in their happiness when eggs and hatchlings appear and to, basically, look over their odd behaviour and weird requests. There are warnings to hide credit cards, to be aware that missing snakes can show up in the oddest places and to expect other people to avoid meal invitations because the snake food is housed next to, on top of and underneath human food in the freezer.

Once infected with the disease only natural death after many years and many, many, many snakes will the victim be cured.

You did those binomial scientific names on all the "Road Runner" cartoons, didn't you? ;)

snakes are definately an addiction!

Feb - i got 2, planned on getting 1, but the bf though the anery looked cool ...
April - added 2 more, '05s to breed for '08
May - got a sunkissed from a Joe P. male sale
August - returned from road trip, got 1.1 ultramel het caramel; trip to Petco got an anery unknown, w/ possible caramel influence; and bought a pair of proven '03's to breed for '08
Sept - purchased 5 more, i recieved ultramel anery, and am waiting on 1.1 hypo lavs and 1.1 ghost stripe

which puts me up to 15 snakes in about 9 months. genetics and all of the wonderful possibilities are definitely addicting

Road Runner [Meep meep] that coyote's after you! Road Runner [Meep meep] if he catches you, you're through!

got a RTB in Dec. of 06, added a corn in jan of this year, now up to 19 as you can see in my sig (milksnake isn't listed there) and now that I am out of room I am looking to build a rack for my corns of which I will added two more two because I was in the local petstore and fell in love with two that are being co-hab and both have been through bad experiences.....and I feel the need to love them, lol...I knew I should have NEVER HELD THEM. But now I need to bring them home.

As far as an addiction....does thinking that you could move your 8 yr daughter move in with her 13 year old sister so you could use her room for more snakes --- does that count?

I started out with my first corn, my amel, in early March of this year...then ordered my lavender corn which arrived in July...and just this last month wound up with my Western hognose from the reptile expo!

I've really had to show restraint in picking up other additions...I think two corns and one hoggy is enough for right now...or so I tell myself. :crazy02:

Anything counts with snake addicts. My snake tanks are almost wall to wall in the living room. As it is I have one snake/tank where I have no idea where I am going to put it. I was thinking on my night stand in the bed room but I don't know how cool that will be with my husband. Maybe if I just do it and don't say anything he won't notice for a while.

What's even bad is the birds and Lizzy, the iguana, has taken over one spare bedroom and the dogs have taken over the other spare bedroom. Pretty soon I am going to have to let my Dad know that Kevin and I have moved out onto the porch because the Zoo has taken over. (He asks me every time we talk if we've lost our bedroom yet, that's about the only room that is animal free except for the kitchen and bathroom.)

Well i collected my new corn yesterday, but it wasnt the male amel that I had originally gone to collect. After telling myself over and over again that I dont like snows, I ended up getting a female snow instead of the amel! I was really shocked at how pretty it was close up with a lovely pink coming through! Il post some pics soon!

haha this is so true, I purchased my first corn at the end of August, and just over the weekend (Sept.29) I purchased a second corn at a reptile expo.

Totally agree....I've had Jinta for only a week now (5 days actually) and I find myself searching for my next one already. Maybe a Leucistic Black Rat, or Texas, Reverse Okeetee, or Bloodred corn, who knows. All so beautiful. I'm having to convince myself to stick to Jinta for a few months first before considering another but it's proving to be difficult.

i have had my amel for around a month. I am going to to the Del Mar Reptile Expo Tomorrow to pick up another corn.
