24 Hours Post Feeding - No Lump?

So I have a question about feeding and digestion. I've had my snake, Ledger, for about a month. I do not know how old he is.

He weighs just over 10.5g and is about 18 inches long. He's a great feeder and we've never had problems in that area. I am feeding him about every 5 days or so (1 pinkie) and giving him at least 2 days for digestion before handling.

It seems like his food is 'traveling' pretty quickly down the length of his body. I decided to check him tonight, at around 24 hours post feeding, to see if there was a 'lump.' There wasn't.

It leaves me wondering...should there be a lump? I seem to think that I read there should be. But based on what I've read elsewhere his weight indicates that it isn't quite time to 'up' his food size. I don't want to increase his intake and cause problems.

Thoughts?

Do you get your pinkies from Petco? Their pinkies run a bit small, in the 1-2g range, instead of the 3g suggested by the munson plan. If you are using those pinkies you could probably adjust your feeding schedule.

Also I've heard higher temperatures can make snakes digest more quickly. Or just a fast metabolism.

If you do increase the rate of food intake, make sure he has at least 1 poop before his next meal!

Up his food size!! It won't stress him out, it's a natural progression.

One way to go to make the transition smoother is to feed him two pinkies for a few meals, then bump him up to fuzzies. It's better to feed two small items than one item that is too large, because if the meal decomposes faster than your snake can digest it, the snake will regurgitate.

Snakes can handle surprisingly large meals though! General rule of thumb is the meal can be as large as 1 and 1/2 the size of the snake's midsection.

Don't be afraid to bump your corn up to an adequate sized prey item! Hope all goes well.
