OK, as some of you know, i have a Royal python who had not Fed....UNTIL TODAY!!!

It has been 4 months since he has eaten anything and today i managed to help get him force fed.

Once we had it part way down his mouth he took it and swallowed it so im really proud and happy now.

I am also glad i didn't have to resort to live mice.

Luke

Hey that's great..... I heard bp can be a lot of months without eating, I have twofriends who had BP and they suddenly stopped eating and they died =/. It's good he finally ate! :D

Glad to hear that he's eaten a meal. Hopefully, he'll continue to do so! I finally traded my python for a corn snake because I was tired of wasting F/T mice.

Good luck! :spinner:

um force fed? Luke, how did you do this?
I wouldn't count this as good until about 3 days after the fact. I would like to see the snake hold this down. Your snake may regurge and that can be bad spiral.

I had it done by a proffesional but i helped (just holding his body really, stop him escaping.

But i know he can regurge, but after we gave him the mouse and put it part way down, he took the rest down himself and hopefully will not re-gurge.

Is it an adult BP? They can go a real long time without food and I kind of think of force feeding as an absolute last resort. But 4 months is a long time for a baby I guess. Anyway, congrats on getting him to eat. I do know the worry - Chester is still fasting like a champ but he's just starting a shed so I'm hopeful he will eat afterwards.

Yes, he is still a baby. So i figured 4 months was quite a long time.
I know that the adults can go longer, but i was starting to worry because he is only young.

Almost two weeks ago, I bought a two week old baby ball python. I tried to feed her yesterday, and she just cuddled with the fuzzy. LOL. I'm not too worried because it's common for balls to refuse food for wildly extended periods of time. As long as the snake isn't losing weight, it will be fine...but when they begin to show signs of weight loss, it's time to act.

There have been reports of ball pythons refusing food for over one year with little to no weight loss. They are true survivor snakes. In the wild, they will crawl into a rodent burrow, consume all the inhabitants, and live in the burrow (never coming back out) until they finally need more food. Since they spend most of their time immobile and underground in the wild, the expend very little energy..so a large meal can hold them over for months and months at a time. :)

As I have always stated a fat and lazy ball is a happy ball.

One trick I have tried with some of my more difficult feeders is place them in a dark rack tub and leave them alone for a week. This usually will get them good and hungry. I get them started feeding for about a few months and move back out and they start eating fine for me then.
