5 students sent home for wearing American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo!!

The five teens -- Galli, Austin Carvalho, Matt Dariano, Dominic Maciel and Clayton Howard -- were sitting at a table outside Live Oak High School Wednesday morning when Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez asked two of them to remove their American flag bandannas, one of the boys' parents told FoxNews.com. The youths complied, but were asked to accompany Rodriguez to the principal's office

Here is something I didn't catch the first time I read this story. Look at the sir names of the five boys and the Vice Principal.

But Jones said the preemptive action was unnecessary, and that Rodriguez "overstepped his bounds."

"The issue was, there was nothing going on," Jones told Fox News on Friday. "There was no sense of violence at all amongst the students, there was no conversation, there was no bullying.

Wayne you got to know this off. I'm going to get really upset if I keep reading this stuff.

WHAT!?!

They actually can't be serious! This is crazy and I don't get it. This is right up there with flying a Mexican flag above an upside down American flag on on the same pole. This is the United States of America, correct? It is things like this that cause me to contemplate becoming a Canadian.

Jay

Upside down American flag isn't a bad thing and actually is pretty appropriate right now in my opinion. It is considered a distress signal. I'd probably condone flying one upside down at least from now until the elections in November if not the ones in 2012.

When I first read this, I was pretty  . Only in Amerika can a person get sent home from school for wearing the countries flag on a shirt. :nope:

Wow, people wonder why I lean fairly far right.. This was certainly not the protection of free speech and this can be and should be considered an intential and blantent disregard for all rights.. Whats wrong with those people???

I'm from this area (grew up on the Peninsula, live in SF now), and if you knew the kind of gang problems they have in SJ, you'd understand their rules... apparently you can't wear ANY flags to school, so they were just enforcing this rule equally. Not saying I agree with it necessarily, but as somebody who works at a rough public high school, I do understand their original reasoning.

P.S. This is not a liberal vs conservative issue, it's directly related to gang wars & racial tension in the South Bay - which is definitely not the most liberal part of the Bay Area.

I'm in SJ and I'm pretty sure your wrong on this one. It had absolutely nothing to with gangs. In the original story from the San Jose Mercury News. There were a number of Mexican students waving and wearing the Mexican flag on campus and not one was asked to remove their colors.
Also your portrayal of SJ having a gang issues is way off base. SJ has been rated for many years as one of the top 5 safest big cities in the nation. Lastly, this was in Morgan Hill not San Jose. Morgan Hill is more then 20 mile south of SJ.

In this case then it might be considered truely racist ?? How many people are willing to stick their necks out for these White Kids who chose to wear their nations flag, in their nation on Cinco De Mayo? No one really cares as long as the "minority" didn't get offended...

Tim you should run for Priest or start you own religion. You are very wise. You're kind of quiet however, we'll need to work on that.

Wade mentioned..

Some folk just consider me a wise ass.. *lol* Naw, I just get tired and irritated with people.. Of course this sort of Paper Trail tends to lead to Oragami Crime, in the politcal scheme of things.. *lol* You would think they would have something better to do than bash the kids who are just as proud of their country as the others apparently are.. *shrugs* Not only in America, but fairly predominant here.. What less can we truely expect ...????
