8 month old corn - how often do i feed?

Iv had my corn about a week now hes 8 months old, and i was advised to feed twice a week on small pinkie mice. he was last fed saturday but i am still unsure about when i should feed him next.

Until tonight he has been really mild tempered, didnt seem to mind being handled, but tonight he bit me for the first time. i was wondering whether this sudden change maybe due to hunger? i am planning to feed every wednesday and saturday. any help on this would be appreciated as im totally new to reptiles!!

:shrugs:

thanks!

i have 2 8 month olds and they are eating way bigger than pinkies they are taking big fuzzies now and my 9 month old takes hoppers, i feed mine a fuzzy every 5 days, sometimes even 4, and ive never had a regurge in my 5 months of keeping snakes lol!!not very long. my 9 month old is getting huge i see him looking for food more often like 2 days after i feed him, hes going through a crazy growth spurt. hope this helps

i meant ive never had them refuse a meal, i have had one regurge, due to feeding too big, i geuss the general rule is to feed a mouse 1.5 times the size of the biggest part of the snake, i do sometimes go slightly bigger however. hope that helps

he is quite small bout 1 1/2 foot and the mouse in comparison to him is about that size. any ideas about the biting, duznt hurt but quite suprised since hes only jst started after a week of handling?

does the mouse leave a bulge in the snake, or can you not even tell he ate anything, you should see a little bulge for about 20 hours or so. about the biting sometime hatchlings are just nippy, luckily none of mine were.they usually calm down from what i hear.

yes last time i fed you could see the bulge for around a day. i understand some youngsters can be nippy i was just suprised as i have had him over a week and tonight is the first time its happened.

oh you've only had him a week, he's probably just a little bit nervous still, sometimes the move from the petstore or wherever you got him to your house can stress a snake out, im sure he will be fine, just leave him be for a day or 2 im sure he will calm down.

Usually by 8 or 9 months they are on fuzzies or hoppers. Once mine are off pinkies, I go to feeding every 7 days. You don't want to overfeed.

Yep - twice a week is just too much feeding and cleaning time. I would aim for every 6-7 days.

actually, if you bought this snake from a pet store, i can see that it may still be on Pinkies. My 2 are pet store snakes, and they are just moved up to fuzzies this week, though one is going back to pinks for a while due to regurge.

It is better IMHO to feed every 7 days but feed 2 pinkies at a time, rather than feeding 2X a week at 3 day intervals.
