how long after feeding do you wait to handle your snake? my snow and i are quite used to eachother, and i dont think she minds being handled after a day to a day 1/2. but i just got a new snake in today, and he ate a tiny f/t pinky (which i doubt was enough to fill him up, but i only had one thawd because i thought he'd be too stressed from being shipped to eat at all), but -anyway- i was wondering if i should give him some extra time to recoup or if i should dive into the handling, because he needs some training and i'm ready to go at it!

also.. on that feeding thing, i'm not accustomed to the f/t feeding (my snow has eaten live pinkys since i've had her) and the f/t are a lot smaller than the live pinkys i get.. so i'm used to only feeding her one in a sitting. how do you feed them more than one? (since i'll have to with these tiny f/t pinkys now) do you lay out a few and let the snake go at it, do you wait a while between feeding each pinky? i'm not sure if i should let my new snake digest and poop before feeding him the rest of his meal or not.

one more question.. my snow will kill and eat her mice in one spot, but the new one i have.. he picked up the f/t by the head and started crawling away. he got really upset when i tried to stop him and wouldn't actually eat the pinky until i put him back in his cage. is it possible he's been trained with different feeding patterns, and that's why he did this? or is my snow just super laid back and he's a little skittish.. i suppose either way i can ween him off of this habit.

After you feed the snake, a good rule of thumb is to give the snake 48 to 72 hours to digest. As to feeding more than one mouse, it's simple. First you feed it one f/t pinks and then when that one is all the way down (past the throat) feed the second one just as you did the first. The snake that picked up the mouse and started crawling away might have just been dragging the mouse somewhere safe to eat it such as her/his hide. It's perfectly normal. Hope that helps.

I put my corn into a seperate container (shoe box) with the f/t item, and she seems to appreciate me putting the lid on. Eating in the dark is Fiji's prefered feeding conditions, it makes her feel safe and isn't stressful. Of course, it makes watching her eat difficult, but I'll move the lid open a crack to watch her. She usually virtually inhales her food, hoovering it up very quickly. You'd think she'd never been fed!

I actually judge it on the snake. My Amel was on small adult mice, ate them quickly, and was looking for more. She was also out and around the viv within one day. If she pooped, she was digested, and I handled her. Now that she's eating larger mice, it's taking her several days to digest, so I wait. My Aztec is on fuzzies and she's ready to go in about 2 days. I figure if they're out and around the viv checking things out, they are o.k. to handle. My amel ate a med. sized mouse on Monday, and she shed today and pooped inside the shed. Never had her do that before! All one shed though, and she looks beautiful now!
