A little question/concern..

Crowskin

...as the crow flies...
Hello all, I need your advice again. This time it's with Prophet, my large red Amel who is a female and has been a very good feeder for me..

..at least until the last few weeks. For some reason she's stopped showing interest in her food. This has caused her to miss two feedings now. I know they can go without a few feedings and it won't endanger their health too much - but she's my good feeder (my other corn is being force-fed as it's never started feeding and yes it was recommended from my local vet who has lots of experience with snakes.)

So my question is.. considering she's old enough to breed now - is this a somewhat normal reaction to the season? I read on here that sometimes males will skip feedings in the breeding season here and there. Do females sometimes do this as well?

I do intend to take her to the vets for a checkup if things continue, or I notice other signs of her not being well, I love my little darlings, but I really want all your advice first.

She shows no sign of lethargy, no sneezing or breathing issues, and she's not in blue phase yet. Nothing has changed in her cage, the mice are from the same store, (frozen/thawed) and nothing about her feeding routine has changed.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Two, three or evfen four missed feedings is no big deal for your snake if it is healthy and well fed up to this point. If, as you say, nothing has changed it may just be the season or just that she's not hungry. Try ever week as you have been doing...she will eat.
I have an old black rat snake that only eats seven or eight times a season ( I only feed my adults for six months out of the year).

I have a female (4years old) who double clutched last summer and hasn't been with a male since March 2006. She's been off her food for the last 2 weeks too. She's a good sized female, so I'm not too worried. I just hope she's not one of those females who lay slugs every year and that that's why she's not eating.

thank you to both of you. I'm thinking it might be normal, since she's healthy in every other aspect. And still is passing bowel movements and things. I'll keep a close eye on her just incase and try again on her next feeding day.

Thanks again, it helped calm my nerves some :)

Have her slither through your fingers while you press down and try to feel any eggs in her. You'll feel a definite string of pearls or larger consecutive lumps. If you do, then that's why she's not eating right now.
