? about flexwatt

peep_827

hehehe
Since we are going to be setting up a rack, I have been thinking a lot about flexwatt . . . and doing some research on the stuff. I've found a lot of great info doing searches, yet there are a few questions I haven't found a definitive answer on and I guess I'd better quit trying to figure this out and get something going cause the expo is COMING UP!!! 4/2!!!!! :crazy02:

First, LLL Reptiles is supposed to be there. I saw on their site that they sell flexwatt, sooooo is it likely that I can just buy it there and save on shipping? I actually have accomodations for any snakes I buy at the expo if my rack isn't finished yet, so it's not do or die. But it'd be a real bummer if I get there planning to buy my flexwatt and can't. This is the 1st time I'll go to an expo so I'm not sure what to expect.

Second, back or belly heat, that is the question . . . (Sorry, I'm actually supposed to be working on a presentation about Hamlet for my class rather than thinking about snakes. ) But really, what is best? I've read belly heat is good, but do you need to use the foil tape? Or can you set tubs on flexwatt as long as the heat's not too high? Is it safe to lay it on a wood shelf? I guess that many of you attach it to peg board, I'm just trying to explore my options. Is there any advantage to putting the flexwatt on the back, and do you need to use the foil tape then?

Third, hubby is building the rack to accomodate 12 blanket boxes (6 shelves, 2 boxes per shelf). To begin with I will only have 3 snakes in it (I assume, that's what I'm planning to buy at the expo + Monty is in his tank). So should we only wire 1 or 2 shelves to heat? I'm thinking there wouldn't be much point heating empty shelves, however we do want to build the rack to that size (I think . . . we've been discussing this some) to anticipate future breeding projects. Actually, I pointed out to hubby that unless I buy adults breeding is at *least* 2 years off . . . but he's really fired up about building the rack.

And fourth, what size strip do we use? 3", 4", or 11"? Or does that depend on whether we want back heat or belly heat?

Okay, I'm going to work on my presentation now . . . or try to. I don't think my prof will be sympathetic that I can't think about Hamlet cause I got corns on the brain! :shrugs:
