i have had my corn snake since march and bob ( that's it's name) is getting on really well but i have 2 worries my first worry is this when ever he sheds his skin it sheds fine but the very end of his tail wont come off i'm a little worried as it seems to be impossible to get it off with out hurting him and my second worry is while i was in a class this man bought in a 7 year old corn snake and it was absolutely massive, now i've seen how big it grows im realising im goin to need a much bigger cage but i will no longer be able to keep it in my bedroom, but my parents say im not allowed the snake down stairs in case some visitors dont like it, so if you have any helpful information regarding either of these two problems can you please reply to me, thnx :wavey:

If Bob doesn't shed the skin off the tip of his tail in time the tissue will die and the tip of his tail will fall off. It is important to get the skin off - but luckily it is really easy - just get a wet paper towel and hold it around Bob a little higher than the retained shed and let him slide through it. Put a little extra pressure (but not really hard) right before you hit the old skin. If it doesn't come off, do it again. Usually it will peel off after a couple of tries - this method has never failed me yet.

About the size of an adult corn, most of them can live comfortably in a 20 gallon aquarium - maybe the size of the top of a dresser. What's he living in now? It might be that the snake you saw was just particularly large, some get really big, others stay pretty petite.

well thanks for the advice on the skin i'll try it soon. he's currently living in about a one and a half foot one, but he'll need a new one in about a year, the problem is that my room is absolutely tiny and i mean you open the door and walk straight into the bed. lol

You could get a taller viv next time round, then do what I did and put some shelves in there. Theres more areas for hides and it looks good too imo.
Heres a pic of my tank, just imagine it turned on its side with the shelves put right. Just an idea.

Cheers, I was pleased with the result too. It's even better now, I've got rid of the plant pots and got some some clay pipes and natural looking hides in there now. Artificial plants finish the job off.

wow

cool. mine sounds rubbish compared to yours all mine is, is a bit of dry moss a water bowwl and a log

Sounds to me like you need a couple of hides in there sazzy. A couple of cardboard boxs will surfice, but theres loads of things round the house you can use.
If you get all the essentials first, then week by week get another little item and before you know it your struggling for room for your latest buy.

yeah

yeah the logs hollowed out so he can go in there, and he's small enough to hide under his water bowl, but yeah im not stupid enough not to give him some hides.
