Affection

Have any of your snakes ever been affectionate to you or acted like a domestic animal like a cat or dog???

I know it's a bit of a strange question but I'm curious to see some replys!

 P.s. Can anyones snake do a trick???

Hello fellow Yorkshire person!

The only 'tricks' mine does is fall off whatever he's climbing up and bob his head to music (I swear). He's good at musical statues too if that counts. But as much as I love him he does not show signs of affection toward me. I'm just the one person he doesn't mind touching him lol.

I don't think they have that capability really.. They might have lovely temperaments, seem to enjoy being handled etc, but there's no love there we're just the hand that feeds them :)

IMHO :)

Tracee is right. No matter how much WE love them, they just don't have that part of the brain to show affection. Many people will swear that theirs do, and I think thats fine. I once had a female Cal King that would let me stroke her under the chin, she would just sit there and allow me to do this. At the time I assumed she was being like a kitten, but now I know it was more likely to be just something she tolerated. May have had some sort of hypnotizing effect, like rubbing a Gator's belly or something. Regardless, I thought it was pretty cool.

My corn does little things that could be misunderstood for affection, but my python (or the one I plan on buying, rather) seems to LOOOOVES her chin scratched. She'll turn her head almost completely upsidedown if you scratch her anywhere around her jaw.

To call them affectionate I think it just us wanting them to be that way, but there are definitely things they like (or dislike) more than others.

my snake does not seem to have affection she looks more like she is always scheming, mind you she is female..lol..
but she too will tolerate me having my hands in her viv and she will rest her head on my fingers but will not climb on my hand...i have only just got her to go to my son as well, worked out why she would not go to him..its his cold hands..we too live in yorkshire and its bloody freezing, he runs his hands under warm tap..genius eh..

No, Yorkshire here, but I'm in the UK. What would I give for my corns to show me affection?? Sometimes it seems as though they are but they're not really. Still we're not entirely certain on that, we should keep an open mind for ANY possibility :). My amel often looks me in the face and moves up to my head, then slips off, very cute. My snow is always very clingy, and will sleep or just lie for ages in my lap or around my shoulders.

A few of mine do the same thing Spirit. Especially my bloodred Jynx. She'll actually push her chin almost violently into my hand when I scratch her chin. My albino ball python likes it when I scratch ther top of her head, which is kinda wierd, and she tries to give me tongue flick kisses all the time.

Cobras

I The only snake I've ever heard of possibly developing that trait is the cobra. I've heard people who have kept them as pets say they deminstrate more inteligence than other snakes and some of their behaviors lean towards likeing one person more than another. But I wouldn't know, Cobras are beyond my capabilities to keep. :) If they love being handled by you and having you scratching their chin, wouldn't they then love you in a way? People love people because they like spending time with that person. Sounds like the same thing to me. Snakes are just too cool to show it outright like a dog. :)

Before I was homeschooled, my snake would come out at 7:30 every morning, like he was making sure that I was up and ready. lol. Then he would come back out around 3:30, like he was waiting for me to get home. And if I wasn't in bed by 11pm he would poke his head out of his hiding spot and stare at me. It was cute. Mine also seems to like getting his chin rubbed. Once my dad was rubbing his chin, and after he stopped my snake lifted his head up and looked at my dad like, "Why'd you stop??? :(" so my dad started rubbing his chin again lol.

yea king cobras are the smartest ever. They are calculating your movement all the time, then they strike and kill you! yea but they are smart smart smart smart smart smart snakes.

there was a show on one of the cable nature channels about a family in Indonesia who had a "pet" king cobra...They are neat anyway, but it was really amazing to see how casual all the family members and the king interacted...at one point the snake was kind of in the way of them making dinner outside...the 6 year calmy picks up the front end (as much as a 6 year old can pick up a 12' or so snake) and assists it out of the way...snake never hoods, doesnt bat an eye lol...it moves freely throughout the home and outside, sits among them and is trated as a family member, not a pet...I think they believe it is a spirit of one of their relatives...awesome pest control too as far as rats and other venomous snakes in the home and about....beautiful animals...

Did you order the video or the written transcript, Chris? Would like to check that out.

hehe...

Doesn't surprise me one bit, but very interesting.

Tanks 4 shairing, do0d!

omg, Quigs has gone l337 (or whatever... is that even right? l33t? l337? LMAO) lol

That's neat cka.

My female

My female is very affectionate. When somone gets near the tank she gets into a defensive posture, and starts striking. I am the only person she doesn't do that for. So I think she likes me. Once you get her out of her tank she is very tame though.

I am sure you all KNOW what I think by now :devil01:...feeling love or affection FROM your snake is called anthropomorphism...but I digress.

I would like to see the show about the King Cobra as well...
If you ever see it again...get the name and channel...so I can check it out...
Sounds like an accident waiting to happen...but I have actually heard of this type of behaviour before...

She's probably used to your smell/size/shape etc. Mine is the same :) he hates men for some reason!
