Affordable thermostat?

I was hoping you guys could help me find an affordable thermostat that doesn't sacrifice too much on quality. Any "best bang for your buck" models out there? I've postponed getting a rack for now but I would like to switch from heat lamps to under-tank heaters with thermostats for the two snakes I've got. Any suggestions?

Well what price range would you be looking into, I've been looking for one too and I think I found a really great deal on reptiledirect.com. Not sure if it's the best deal out there but they're way better priced than the ones I've seen at places like PetCo and Petsmart.

Go to Lowes and pick up one of their digital models. Reason one, I have stock in Lowes and need the support, lol. Reason two, they are economical, mine cost around $12_$15 I think. I use the maximum/minimum type. I have 4 in the snake room now and they run on those tiny "a" betteries. They have a long probe that you can place in different locations. I have at times, placed the probe in a rack container to get a really good reading. So far so good and I have used them for nearly 5 years now.

I can't remember what section but you can ask any associate and they can point you in the right direction.

Good luck and don't forget to buy batteries, they do not come with them.

The one at bigappeherp is $40, and shipping about another $10.

I think I can get one of the Zoo Med thermostats at my petsmart for about $32 (they honor online prices (at least in the past they did) ), and no shipping as I'll walk in there myself.

How is the quality of the Zoo Meds? Is it worth paying the total of $50 at bigappleherp?

The $50 is worth is, HG. I have several of the ZooMeds. I don't trust them so much, and I'm hoping to phase them out if I can get my paws on some racks. The Rancos, though, are supposed to be GREAT. I haven't used one myself (yet--got one today, just have to get the new enclosure set up), but I've heard nothing but good... I still highly prefer Herpstat (have one-- a Herpstat II--operating two tanks) as it's downright amazing, though. I got the zoomeds simply because they were $27 (I don't consider shipping, since we never JUST order a thermostat from them--we usually throw bedding, hides, etc, etc in to make it worth it) a piece on petsmart.com and I was short on cash. :shrugs:

About 6 years ago I needed a thermostat, and used one of these successfully for a few months before another thermostat arrived. The BAH 1000 worked very well, even though reviews were not very favorable at the time...

I see that the latest offering has had its innards completely reworked, so I'm betting that it is now super reliable, and that any reviews would now be most favorable. I'd suggest you get this item, as it's specifically made for persons keeping herps, and it's offered for a fair price.

Dan :)
