African House Snake- RI?

CodeRed

Critter Creeper
My Housie has been displaying some symptoms of RI, but I'm not sure if it really IS RI, or if it's part of her shedding behavior? Any help at all is appreciated... Basically, what she's doing is when she breathes, she "pops". When she breathes, her throat expands (like a frog's), and lets out a small, cracking sounds when it deflates. Think of your Snap, crackle, pop cereal, and it sounds a bit like that, only it happens just once, not multiple times. It happens maybe... every 6-15 seconds? Does this sound right for RI? If so, I'll take her to the vet ASAP, since I know RI is pretty bad for snakes, especially one as small and young as her.
I noticed this when I tried to feed her, which she didn't accept (this was after the full week of waiting after getting her).
I'm worried about her, and wondering if I accidentally bought a sick snake. She's also very slow and calm, something I thought was rare for Housies, who tend to be a bit more flighty. I upper her heat some, and I've covered her viv in a blanket, to keep stress minimum, but the vent is open to allowed humidity to escape, as well. I suppose I could try to get a video later.
The sound HAS diminished over the past two days, so maybe it's going away, but I don't trust it, and would like some more experienced opinions. I posted this on another forum, but got no replies.

I've moved her away from the other snakes in the meantime, into an empty room...

I am fairly new at this, but IMO, it could be RI from shipping stress, since you just got her.
It sounds like RI to me, with audible respirations. (I may be new to snakes, but I've been in the emergency field for about 13yrs.)

I was told by a friend that if you catch it in time, sometimes upping the heat can help, & sometimes a nebulizer does the trick. If it's advanced a vet visit is a must!

I hope your little one is ok!

She wasn't shipped, but she DID have a 5 hour car ride, so I suppose that could've stressed her quite a bit. Thanks for the help! I don't THINK it's advanced, since it wasn't noticeable when I picked her up at the expo, so it must be a new thing.

I've been doing some research on this, & also based on recommendation from a friend with a LOT of snakes, using a nebulizer with F-10 seems to work better than Baytril.

PHEW. Good news ^_^ She shed. Little stinker. Came off all in one piece, and even her shed is iridescent o_o; I'm SOO glad it wasn't RI... I hope this isn't the norm for her o_o;

Here in South Africa which these snakes are endemic to, I have never heard of an African House with an RI.

In their natural habitat they will go from Summer temperarures from upper 20c to mid 30c. In Winter they will experience temperatures from low teens down to 0c.

This species are very tough and hardy. They are actually considered to be indestructible, only a very direct external injury will actually kill them, this is my opinion on this species.
