After shed feeding

Our little man just shed about a week ago. A few days later we fed him his pinky like normal. Accept this time he struck at it (which he never does) and he was done in about 5 seconds. We decided to give him another one because he was still very active and his tongue was going a mile a minute. So my question is. Should we keep feeding him 2 pinkies or could if be time to move up to fuzzzies?

It depends on how big he is/how much he weighs. You want to feed one prey item 1-1.5 times as big as the diameter of the snake at its widest point.

How big was the lump after he ate 2 pinkies? If it was very small or not noticeable, then you probably want to move up to fuzzies.

If you want, you can look up something called the "munson plan" which is a rough guide on how much to feed a corn snake based on the weight of the snake and the weight of the prey items. But if you go by the width rule that Nanci mentioned, or by the size of the lump, that works pretty well to and doesn't require having a precise weight of the snake and prey items.

This poses an interesting question for Margaret and I: we usually feed our snakes when they finish shedding, usually within the hour. We've never had a regurge doing this, but should we wait a day or three? We figure that when one of our snakes sheds, it has already been a week or so since their last feeding and they're probably hungry.

Is there a rule of thumb? Is it okay to go ahead and feed like we do, or should we wait?
