Age of Males

I can not think of a scientific reason why it should do.

However, they do need to have reached sexual maturity to be capable of breeding.

Sexual maturity has more to do with size then age. 3 - 3 1/2 feet is considered mature for most corns. Weight is more important for females. If you have a yearling male that is close to 3 feet and of good weight you can try him. A young male may also not be fertile for many breedings. Some females will reject a small/young male. All you can do is try and see what happens. It won't make him sterile.

Give it a go. What the heck?

I am cycling several 02 males through this year, knowing that they may not "get the job done". I really don't need to prove any of the genetic traits so the potential father is immaterial. Their familiarity with the process and the experience is really what I'm after. ;)

Hey CAV...do you happen to have any rough idea what your '02 males happen to weight? I am just curious about a rough number to draw the line on...

Thanks

Lee

I have some 2002 males that have been breeding this year. I'm not sure how their fertility rate will be, but here's keeping my fingers crossed!

And Lee...the above mentioned 2002 males weigh between 200-300 grams

The weights vary between 110-220 grams. All of these guys were late season acquisitions and are not as big as others

OK, thanks for the reference...my '02 dude is definately not a contender and will simply be babied and fed up in hopes he is ready next year as I am very confident that 90 grams is far far to little...

Thanks I really appreciate the help.

Lee
