AllAlaskans modest little snake collection

Allalaskan

The Crazy Alaskan
Well I know I don't have snakes that compare to other members here, but I just thought I would share mine. They are nothing special but I really like em :D And I figured later on if I get more snakes I can post em here instead of starting a whole new thread.

So here is Seth my Normal Corn. Believed to be male. This was also my first snake.

Here is Jess, Normal BP. Believed to be female. This is my second. She was a bit thin when I got her but over the last month she has really put on the weight. She is a great eater and is very active.

Here is Jericho, Normal BP. Believed to be male but not sure. This is the newest addition, who is a bit thin and dehydrated I think. It was in a bad shed when I got him so it wasn't to easy to tell. Im hoping he will plump back up some after he gets on a regular feeding routine (he was fed fuzzies only by the last owner :( ) and in a good viv with good humidity.

One of these days I will pickup a probing kit and find out exactly what they all 3 are. For now I kind of have to just take what I was told when I got each one.

Very nice looking snakes Seth. I'm sure once Jericho gets some groceries in him he'll plump right back up. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Looking good so far. Snakes do multiply within a household. You can go years wanting a pet snake then end up with three within the first year.

Very nice.Jericho is looking a little better than before.Jess is looking great. And Seth looks absolutely stunning.

Ya, Jess has really "Plumped" back up since I got her. She was pretty flabby when I got her. I'm sure after a month or so Jericho will be doing much better. I fed Jess last night and as usual she didn't even think she just struck the mouse and coiled haha. Shes such a great eater. I'm hoping Jericho is as good an eater and not the typical picky eater I hear a lot of BPs to be.

All snakes are special and worthy, so I can't agree with your first statement.... LOL
Thats the start of a nice collection....
A little tip I use for hydrating snakes is to use isotonic power-ade sports drinks...
Dilute it with 25% water and let your snake bathe in it.....
Great for non feeders and snakes under the weather as well.....

Thanks for the tip :D I will have to try that. Jericho already is in better shape now then when I got him (should have seen in person the shed he had going on) and he is doing better but I will try your tip using the isotonic power-ade. Thanks for the recommendation.

No probs.... There's a thread/post about it here ..... Somewhere....LOL

You have some interesting snakes! Its good that you helped Jess and are helping Jericho back into shape, You did a great job with Jess.

Very nice. Slow and easy is the trick to putting weight back on. You want them to put it on gradually and not just get fat. Usually snakes that are not fed too often are good eaters. Mine rarely refuse food unless they are in shed, and sometimes even then. Occasionally a breeding male will quit, but it's not often anymore since I spread the feeding out.

How far apart are you talking? I have been feeding Jess every 7 days but I am about to move her to every 10 days I think, Seth as well. As far as Jericho I was planning on keeping him at 7 days apart till I gains back some weight.

Thanks for your imput though, I do not want them to pile it on fastly just Jess gained it back pretty quick. Her last owner was feeding her once a month and she was pretty flabby (skin was loose). Jericho though, hes kinda bony but not real flabby his last owner though never fed him any thing bigger then a fuzzy.

Well I figured I would post some pics. I moved Jericho into the big viv and moved Seth back into the 29 gallon on its side for now since I plan on finishing the bottom chamber some time this week.

Jericho just looooooves his new vines. He spends the day hiding in his hide, but as soon as it starts to get dark out he comes out and goes up to this same spot lol.

He cruises the tank a lot too but after about 8pm he always ends up back in this same spot, I think he likes it because he is up high and can see out of the viv really well.

Hopefully I will have this viv done by the end of next week and I can post pics of it finished with Seth inside too. Ok well it wont be totally done because I don't have the Flex watt or the thermostats yet but the majority of the hard work will be done, then I will get pics of every one in their new home.

I've found it's more of an exponential growth thing... I got Hokie in the fall of '06. By spring '07 I had two more snakes, a Cal King and a Children's python. Then I got three more in the next year. Exponential growth if you graph it out.

Well Jess just finished her first shed since I got her, and man it was a perfect single piece, eye caps in the shed and all :D

Here she is just minutes after her shed.

"Dad, what is that?"

Any way, thats my girl after a clean shed.

Figured its been more then a few months so I would post some more recent pictures. I took these tonight, all 3 snakes just all finished shedding in the last 3 days lol, literally one after the other. Sorry about the dirty rug, I forgot to vacuum before I took the pictures and its one of those rugs that catches ANY THING lol.

First off Is Seth Again, I haven't measured him lately but the last time I measured him (back in March I think) he was at 39 inches long.

Now here is Jericho and Jess, Jericho on the left and Jess being on the right.

048.jpg

049.jpg

Now keep in mind when I got Jericho he was a couple inches shorter then Jess and was most definitly under weight, now he is fat and happy and growing quick on rats!

Here is Jericho

042.jpg

Then Jess, she is most definitly more shy then Jericho is.

043.jpg

Now I have been told you cant always count on the length of a snakes tail to tell its sex, but I thought it funny that the one thats suppose to be male has the shorter tail and the one thats suppose to be female with the longer.

Jess,

And Jericho,

And one more, Jess on Top and Jericho below.

I had a few moments before bed and thought since I had them out I would take some pictures and share their progress :D
