Am I Feeding My Corn Too Much?

DBAA

The Old Newb
:wavey: Yellow, I'm sorta new to this forum and cornsnakes in general. I just have a few questions....
1.I just got a corn snake( will have pics soon) 2 weeks ago(exactly),i fed him one pinkie, which seemed like it was 3 times bigger than his whole body, two days after i got him. ,...i didn't see any feces(crap)in his tank,so i decided to feed him again and see what'll happen, and he ate it.....i noticed his left eye was slightly bigger than the other one(more buldgy).Am I doing somethig wrong...please help. :shrugs:
2.What are ''rep'' points?

I just realized that i left out some general info...my snake is about 9-11 inches long.about1 1/2 around his biggest part..the pinky is about 2inches around.

One pinky (small one) every 5 days should be enough. You don't want to power feed, and you might want to check carefully that the poop hasn't gotten mixed into the substrate. Young babies like yours leave very small poop piles that you might not see in aspen or reptibark. As far as the eye, try posting a picture so we can see what it looks like. Rep points are explained on this site on one of the posts. Just use the search function and type in Rep points. P.S. I find it hard to believe that an 11" snake is 1 1/2" in diameter. My adult corn is only a little bigger than that. I would figure that a snake the length of yours is not even as big around as a pencil.

whats up man. im also kinda new to the forum and cornsnakes but i'll try to help u out. you should feed your snake a pinkie that is 1 to 1 1/2 times the size of the snakes largest part of its body. it usually takes about 24 to 48 hrs for the snake to digest its food then it should defecate. mine usually craps 2 days or so after it has eaten.you should also leave the snake alone for the 48 hrs so as not to cause it any stress that might make it regurgitate the food. since yours is still small you should feed it 1 pinkie every 5-7 days. then depending on how long it takes it to digest u can move up to 2 pinkies every 5-7 days and so on until u can move up to a peach fuzzie or a regular fuzzie. as for rep points, i think its based on ur number of posts and ur overall knowledge of snakes. hope this helped u out. peace

thanks fo rall the info, and excuse me meg f. i didnt exactly measure it. but you are right its definitly not that big.. any info on the bulgy eye?

and if he can swallow the pinkie (which he has done 1 time before) does that mean its small enough for him?

i cant really help you much with the bulging eye, sorry. after you feed your snake there will be a lump in its stomach where the food is. If the lump isnt gone after 48 hrs then it may have been too big for the snake. a good suggestion i have for you is to get the "Corn Snakes, The Comprehensive Owner's Guide" by Kathy Love and Bill Love. That'll give you some general knowledge as well as some in depth stuff that you should know about your snake. The forum is great as well but the book will answer a lot of questions you may have and is handy to have around if you need a quick answer.

yea thanks...i did alot of reaserch..(not on this forum though) before i got the snake...and thank you for helping me

In answer to that. You can download the picture from your picture card to your computer and save to wherever you want. You'll have to size the photo down to less than 150,000 pixels. Then when you post here, you can go to the section under the posting box that says "managing downloads" Click on browse and then go to where you've saved the picture, click on it, and click download. It will automatically download to the post and then you post the reply. If you have more questions, private mail me.
As far as the eye, it may just be a normal thing in your snake. If you could post a picture that would be better though.
If your snake has been eating the pinky without a problem, it's probably just fine. Just make sure you only feed no more than every 5 days. Once mine are on fuzzies, I go to every 7.

thanks...he is eating it but he seems to be stretching a Lil too much..but I'll wait a week and see..thanks

stretching how much? Can you see a lot of skin in between the scales? or not that much? and how fast does the pinky go down after he swallows it? answers to these questions might help us determine if the pinky is to big for her/him. Mine once regurged from a pinky that was too big. that wasnt fun for me or the snake.
