Amel shedding

since hes so young i cant tell if hes in blue or not i know hes due for a shed though but hes still eating. I wont go for the sevin dust yet because i have a veternarian connection and i wanna see what they have to say first. Since the mites are near his eye is it still ok to soak him in soap??

My amel is similar

Just wanted tolet you know everything your reading is pretty much good information. My amel tends to get dusty when he is in blue, never really see the eyes blue up though. But you know when the colors start to fade dramatically. Mine just had his third shed two days ago (I picked him up Sept 18). His saddles have a nice white outline and are starting to develop nicely. I will post pics in the photo gallery in about an hour so you can see what a freshly shed one might look like (young that is).

Also the whole hiding in the hide thing. My amel spends 85% or more of his time under his log hide. The rest he spends moving about on his branches or near his water bowl. Only time he really comes out is when I'm ready to hold him and when it's feeding time and I dangle the mouse in front of his hide with the tongs.

Well hope some of this was of use, I know I posted in this thread late so I apologize if the info is untimely. If you want any more info about what I've experienced you can always drop me a line private message or answer back here. Have a good one.

Go ahead and soak the body in case there are any hiding near the cloaca. Just a drop or two of soap is needed to break the water tension. You can use the olive oil on the body and on the head near the eyes. It won't hurt him and will maybe make it easier to shed...who knows.

he did shed today and looks good. I found one of those little buggers on his shed skin and dont see any actually on him any more. Im still gonna take the precaitionary mesears of putting him in a seperate aquarium real quic and fillin his othe rone with mater and bleach. Let you know how everything goes.

red-What kind of branches did u get for him i havnt found anythign for him to climb around on?

Just a couple basic questions and i really appreciate what you guys have given me so far its really helped out.
While i was holding him today i noticed the scales near his head are much more orange then the ones down his body. Some are even transparent. The scales the are supposed to be orange on his body are more of a pink color. Is this because he is so young, or because of the mites.
I read the mites could cause skin to dull in appearance due to the fact they feed on the blood of the host.
Will his color fully fill in as he gets older? He was born on 7/23.

P.S. still cleaning the tank for the mites let you know how it turns out.

When they are small they seem to be much brighter looking. If I could find the CD I saved the picture on I'll post the difference in the way C.S. looked when I got him and how he looks today. He could be nearing shed also and is in blue. My amel appeared almost purple when he was in blue.

Mine just shed so i dont think its that. He was that color when i got him so i figured that was why and after his skin came off i was expecting that bright orange red and white color but hes just shaded.

Well, I'll answer the original post visually......here's Glutton, my sunglow, as opaque as she gets.

regards,
jazz

In answer to your question

I just buy the generic vines from my local "critters and creatures" in northern virginia. But he also likes to climb around on the fake vines I have as well. I never see them at petco, but if you have petsmarts around you they should have some. If not you can always order offline on petsmart.com or such. If you look at my previous postings I think I have one picture of my cage setup w/ the vines in it. Just search under my postings and look for the ones where I post my monthly photo shoots of raydin. Let me know if you find the posting or let me know if you find any stuff for your viv as well. Later man. PS I added you to my bd list.
